So, basically, I dont give a fuck if this bill becomes a law or not. It does not matter to me, nor does it affect me, in the slightest.

Amen to growing old enough to tie your shoes and wipe your ass without parental supervision.

Im sure all the non-teeny boppers here at TNL will agree with me.
Good point. How many of those complaining are over 18? That bill would only enforce government regulations which are already supposed to be in effect. Furthermore, it'd be less likely to curb a game developer's creativity than this, for example.

  2. Sorry, diff, I do care, and so should you.

There are no governmental regulations in effect regarding mature games sales - ESRB ratings are industry-dictated. Nor are movie ratings government regulations. Once the government gets involved and makes mature game sales a crime, major retailers are simply not going to sell them (rather than take precautions and risk liability). Without a market, these games simply will not be made.

  3. The retailers have already been in this situation, and they tried to enforce the rules. Doesn't help matters a bit if you have parents who are in too much of hurry to listen to the store policy on these types of games, too oblivious to read the ratings, and too unconcerned about the material they are purchasing for their children. If they want to raise the issue of neglect with the retailers, then they should also consider the role the parents play. Even if there are people who will be quick to point out that this ain't always the case, it happens and probably more than most would think.

The retailers could cover their own asses by making certain that their cameras were able to record the transactions; equip the cameras with audio so that they can actually hear what's being said. Most companies record over the phone transactions, why not do the same in-store? At least you know whether or not your people adhere to the guidelines.
    A. Tell her she's cute. B. Give her a flower. C. PUSH HER DOWN

    Think before you post.
Jerry Falwell is a conservative Christian leader whose political beliefs are anything but Democratic. He is fiercely against abortion and hates gay people. These ideals are not part of the Democratic agenda, as anyone without thier head crammed up their ass is well aware of.

Joe Liebermann is a Democrat, and he has always been a proponent of violent video game laws. However, the right wing is full of people who support said proposed laws; have a look at most mainstream news media and you'll see what I mean.

No good can come of being a dittohead.

And the lack a "M" rated games will likely cripple the industry in the US. Nintendo would survive no doubt but companies that rely on the older gamers, mostly X-Box, will be left struggling.

Then again retailers would just go back to checking I.D's, when selling "M' rated material, because they realise it's a huge market.

  7. This makes no sense. There is no law about R rated movies. Its all in the store that sells the video tapes/tickets. I believe only Porn has a law tacked to it. It really has to with the parents. You can take your underage kid to an R rated movie if you want to, but he can't get in on his own, unless trickery is involved. I don't see why video games should be any different.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

That's entirely unrealistic. Why would a store go through all that trouble when it could just not stock the title and get the benefits of waving around the family values flag?

Retailer need to do a better job...but the government has no business getting involved.

I can't tell if you're realizing my sarcasm. I'm well aware that Democrats often support gaming censorship, and I do not approve when they do. However, the Republicans are notorious for attempting to legislate morality, which is a driving force behind any censorship bill.

I'm not applauding Democrats for their involvement in this. I'm simply calling out the pot-calling-the-kettle-black Republicans in our midst.

Liberal or Conservative. Republican or Democrat. This statement, right here, is what it's all about.

I commend you, Burgundy. Even if you are a baby-killing, Communist flag waving, no-moral-having son of a bitch.

(That last bit was a joke! .....HA!)

Just as you do not endorse when your party motions a certain way, doesn't mean we support those same actions from our party (or, me anyway. I can't rightly speak for Yoshi or Hero). Certain things are just wrong. No matter what party it comes from.

I'm no pot in this scenerio. Just as I believe you're no kettle.

Perhaps I've become too dependent on smileys accompanying sarcasm around here.
