Someone please explain the story to Radiant Silvergun

I beat the game last night and was enjoying the ending, even though I couldn't understand any of it. That got me to thinking about the story. I think it's:

- Mankind finds the diamond thingie.
- Man fucks with said thingie and all hell breaks loose.
- Diamond thingie wants to cleanse the earth and start life anew?




SPOILERS??






At the end, diamond thingie is destroyed and the two pilots are saved or perhaps cloned (the red hair??) and the world begins again?

Is that it?
