I guess we have Nintendo employees right here on the message board. I didn't realize this. I am humbled. You're right - how could I be so silly. This board is so important that you are informed of all decisions by Nintendo and Amazon.
((The incredible hint of sarcasm is intended. To think that nothing can happen in the video game world without this message board knowing anything about it is the most incredible part of this whole thread. That is not intended as a slam to anyone in this board. But unless anyone can show credentials that they work for Nintendo or Amazon, then not seeing posts on this board about it means nothing.))
I'm not a criminal court of law. So I go by the "if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck" standard.Agreed. And we have no knowledge as to why (only assumptions - because this message board knows everything). So until that point, Amazon has done nothing wrong. I always thought it was "innocent until proven guilty" in the USA. Show your proof that they are selling the bundled discs (the Not For Resale discs) without Nintendo authorization, and you have your case. Burden of proof is now on you....
Dear Sir,I have received a response from Amazon - but I prefer to let Burgundy tell us what it was. Somewhere on this board the message must already be known....
Thank you for expressing interest in the Ocarina of Time Bonus Disc! It's really quite bonus disc-tastic. You'll get to live adventure in two classic Zelda quests. But order now...supplies are running out FAST!
Thank you,
Amazon
If I'm trying to peddle an SMB/Duck Hunt cart for $30, it doesn't matter whether I found it in the street or bought it from you for a bushel of SMB/Duck Hunt-producing-tree seeds. I'm still either shysty or fucking moronic. It's called market value abnd it's the only thing that matters.Wrong. This thread started by blaming Amazon for price gouging. I believe Nintendo provided them a retail price for it and they applied the same standard mark up. It is not irrelevant. I have emailed Nintendo as well to see what their stand is on this...

I have no way to express my feelings on this statement. Wow!

You forgot to mention the parts where he debunked your paper-thin arguments, again.

Hyperbole aside, this board is extremely on the ball when it comes to industry info. While there are at least a few "insiders" around, that isn't relevant - Amazon selling retail copies of OoT wouldn't be insider info. It would be preceded by a press release, or some other public information.
In the absence of that information, my buddy Occam tells me that, when all other things are equal, the simplest explanation is the truth. Since "Amazon is trying to rip people off" is simpler than "Amazon, Nintendo, North Korea and the Procyon Confederation are all engaged in an intergalactic conspiracy to sell free bonus discs for $70 to Earthling morons," the burden is on you.
"... the burden is on you."
Actually it's not. Rather than rely on the information of someone posting on a message board (even if that board knows everything there is to know about the video game industry) I asked the two parties involved (Nintendo and Amazon). I will be satisfied with their answer.
"You forgot to mention the parts where he debunked your paper-thin arguments, again."
I've made no argument (again that's the best part). All I've said (and I'll say it again for the understanding-impaired) is that you do not know that Amazon made that price up. You also don't know if Nintendo knows they are listed that way. Nothing more. You are assuming Amazon did it because you see the link and the price. You assume that Nintendo would not allow that so Amazon must be wrong. You weren't on the personalized mailing list to receive the memo that went between Nintendo and Amazon when the retail price and listing detailed were discussed (although I'm not sure how they forgot to send a copy to this list - must have been an email glitch).
Simple.
