Wouldn't it be more feasable to say LOTR is our generations Star Wars? Unless of course you mean theme wise....
Neo is superman!
This is our generations Star Wars I guess. So the commercial had me wondering whats going to pop up for the kiddies in 20 years.

Dude, all hail the pipe! That pipe is going to single handedly save humanity, just like the inanimate carbon rod!
IN ROD WE TRUST!
Star Wars is the Lord of the Rings of the 1970s maybe.Wouldn't it be more feasable to say LOTR is our generations Star Wars? Unless of course you mean theme wise....
Exactly. Everyone is beating me to the punch these days. Guess I'm getting useless :/Originally posted by rezo

I had thought that The Matrix is the Star Wars of this generation previously. Then I thought that the next two would suck. Now I am thinking that it won't at all suck and that yes - This is probably the next Star Wars. Although, I really don't think they could possibly wring near as much dough out of it as Lucas has with SW. LOTR is better than the lot of them anyway.
OF NOTE: I thought it was keen that they took the time to makes these 2 and round out the trilogy. Serial movies should henseforth be made all at once and then doled out one by one dictated by post production time (ala the LOTR movies). Star Wars ep. 3 will likely be out by 2007 ( º_o ) according to Lucas. And that hurts!

The writers of The Matrix (Wachowski's? I'm probably way off) already had the 3 movies written before the first went into production. They really had a plan...
Boo, Hiss.
I'm sure they did - but frankly, they should have shot them all at the same time... but then... I guess they couldn't know its success at the time either.

Well, The new trailer kicked ass. Recent Japanese teaser, showed some new stuff, but the one yesterday, gave glimpses on most talked about Highway Chase and Neo VS 100 Smith fight. And man , those look badass !!!.
It was weird to see Neo flying Superman like
Green, Great lineThat what I thought when I saw that scene. Hulk ad was bleak compared to Matrix sequels.
In an interview, the creaters said that at first they were flattered that others were using "bullet time" in their stuff. But then it got smashed into ground and made cliche' and they got annoyed. So now they are doing stuff that is so new, complex, time consuming and expensive, that no other production will be able to reproduce it (that's the hope anyway). For the highway battle, they built a stretch of 6 lane highway just for that scene. We're going to see people chase and fight each other doing 70 MPH with some of the most complicated driving chorecgraphy seen on film. We're talking coordination with a dozen or so cars and some 16 wheelers flipping over and shit. We're talking "do it in one take or we're fucked".Originally posted by Klonoa
Whats all this talk about some new special effects Matrix Reloaded will be showing off?
And the aformentioned Neo vs. 100 agents. It's Neo, one agent that is real, and the rest are all CG. That's just what I know, I'm sure there is mor, but I don't want to know anything more to ruin these movies!
They were lucky to get the first one made (a lot of sceptic higher ups kept questioning them). Plus, as you said, they didn't know how well it would do.I'm sure they did - but frankly, they should have shot them all at the same time... but then... I guess they couldn't know its success at the time either.
I posted alot of info, on some of the action sequences, including highway chase in one of my older Matrix threads.
They never expected for Matrix to become such a big Name. They were making sci/fi action pic, and when it came out, it didnt do that great at box office at first, but then more and more people came to see it, after a good word passed around.
I'm happy that they releasing both parts this year, instead of teasing us, and making us wait for a year ala LOTR.
