Uh... City Connection?![]()
Elsewhere arjue mentioned Uniracers/Unirally for the SNES; and in so doing, pointed out the obvious fact that it is a side scrolling racer, one of much enjoyment and merit, which aparently is no easy thing to accomplish in two dimensions, seeing as how the only other memorable sidescroll racers to stand out in my mind are Excitebike, and original MotocrossManiacs. As well, I've been fixating on SonicCD and thus have StardustSpeedway and the MechaSonic challenge in mind. ..but that's not what we're looking for.
Uhm, so like, any y'all have some suggestions or fond recollections of enjoyable sidescrolling racers from the 2-d hayday.
I'd sure like to read 'em (..then play 'em of course)

Dashin Desperados for Genesis
Sonic 3's multiplayer racing kicks ass. Alot deeper than you probably give it credit for. See if you can finish the grand prix in under 2:20 and you'll see what I mean.
I'd say that's more of a platform/shmup, like a horizontal Dino Riki.Originally posted by burgundy
Breakthru for NES?
I think this thread would be better if CoreBoy had said "2D racers" instead of side-scrolling. The latter description is way too restrictive.
Both Battletoads and Super Battletoads had levels where you had to outrun something chasing you along a twisting rail. That was like a side scroller racer.
The Commodore 64 (and other 8-bit computers) had a bike racer that was very playable. You had to keep the bike in equilibrium while going over an ostacle course type thing. It was in the Quattro Racers package, I think. Was it Super Scramble Simulator?
Then there was Kik-Start and Motocross on C64 too. Anyway, they're all there at Lemon for you to see.
