Thread: Is this 'it' for Star Trek?

  1. Is this 'it' for Star Trek?

I've never really been a fan of Deep Space 9, Voyager or this new Enterprise show, but I love the original Star Trek and The Next Generation more than words can say. That's why the following news article I just read at IMDB.com is a tad destressing:

Star Trek producer Rick Berman has acknowledged that following the failure of Star Trek: Nemesis, the future of the feature franchise is uncertain. "I don't think this is like falling off a horse, and you want to jump right back on it," he told Sci-Fi Wire, the news website of the Sci-Fi Channel. Asked what went wrong, Berman replied: "There's no way of telling what happened. ... I'm convinced that we made a very good movie, and I'm also convinced that the movie was promoted properly."
It seems that the interest in Star Trek as a whole is waning. I don't think Enterprise is a ratings giant, and I'm sure it's expensive to make, so who knows how much longer that show's gonna last. Considering that Nemesis bombed, that the Next Generation crew is getting a tad elderly (though I think they might have one more movie in them), and the fact that there's probably zero interest in a Deep Space 9, Voyager or Enterprise movie (I know I don't wanna see one), do you guys think that the day will come soon where there's just...no more Star Trek? Movies or TV?

  2. I don't know if everyone will agree with this, but Star Trek has gotten away from it's exploration roots. They've also failed to introduce interesting and viable villians. I remember how cool the Borg were when I first saw them. That's what Star Trek needs.

    SC

  3. It was merely a decent movie, not a "very good movie." That's why.

  4. I think the hardcore Trekkers cannot stomach the obvious and gratutious eye candy that has been introduced since Voyager. Everyone knows that Seven of Nine was brought on the show to help get more viewers with sex. She was introduced midway through the show run I think. That wasn't too bad since the core viewers weren't gonna jump ship.

But Enterprise made it a point of showing in its ads all the nudity and such that would appear on its show. It made a strong showing but the hardcore are staying away because there isn't enuf substance & the newcomers are staying away because it isn't enuf sex and not ennuf substance.

Kinda like the ole hardcore/nembie debate in video games.

Nemesis was fucking awesome. I don't know what the hell is wrong with everyone.

  6. They need to lay off the Star Trek license for a few years til they can come up with something a little more fresh.

  7. WTF is "enuf?"

Shine's right. It's like there's a new Star Trek show every other year, and five sets of eeevil new aliens, and nobody cares. Kill it for 20 years.

  8. I forgot to see nemesis...
don't wanna tangle with you, I'd rather tangle with him.
I think I'm gonna bash his head in...

  9. So would I be the only one that would pay money to go see a Deep Space Nine movie?

Aside from one or two little things (such as the character that died at the end), I agree with you. Nemesis was great.
