Thread: Gamespot reviews Capcom vs. SNK 2: EO (score 8.7)

  1. I can barely muster any excitement for this game. Aside from the backgrounds, it looks like a Capcom game from 1995, which is how every Capcom fighter has looked since Street Fighter Alpha. I could get over that if there was some consistency to the artwork, but there is none. You'll get matches where one character is obviously using less frames and older artwork than another. Then there's the issue of balance. I'd rather have 10 balanced characters than 20 characters that are all over the map. I also prefer the NightStalkers way of doing supers, but that would probably dumb the game down too much for hardcore SF fans. I mean, shit, I'll never be able to do Zangief's super.

But it's better this than DOA.

  2. I doesn't suck as much as the grammar in that scentence, though.

  3. Ste: Here's a thought - perhaps English isn't his native language. let's be considerate.

Then again, GGX turns me off profusely because of the rock soundtrack. I have nothing against rock; damn I love rock. It's just chessy and doesn't fit the game. But that's my opinion. And isn't indicative of whether the music is fighting music or not.

Music that isn't fighting music would be Cold-Play. I love that shit, but fighting to Yellow would be akin to fighting underwater.

    I love you Aurora.
Dude, I am not saying the music sucked. Not sure how you jumped to that conclusion...after all, it's my opinion. And it's very simple, I've grown accustomed to a certain style for fighting games (at least with the ones Capcom made). Though from your perspective, I'd probably be rocking to a lot of soundtracks. I suppose I am setting a standard here, but people make generalizations all the time.

In other related notes, that PA strip above is hilarious!

It's quite obvious from the above quote that I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about.

Rumpy: I never mentioned MvC for a reason. Jesus!
The opening from SFIII:TS is from Toronto Rapper Infinite. His other stuff is good.

  5. All I know is that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has the best vs. screen music ever. ("Gonna take you for a ride!")

  6. if you mean the best music that's ever been totally inappropriate for a fighting game, you're right.

  7. Yeah, but ALL of the music in MVC 2 was inappropriate, and that's what made it so great. Nothing better than a little bit of smooth jazz in a fighting game.

  8. MvC2 soundtrack: So bad it's good.

  9. Yup. I hated it at first, but it ceratinly grew on me. Guilty Gear has the best music for a fighting game, though.

Yes, soundtracks by Capcom lately may as well be called Groove Mix or something. Actually, they did kinda do that already after MvC2: New Age of Heroes was released. Bleh, I can only take so much of "I am going to take you for a riiiide" over and over and over. @_@

Then you had the tracks on Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. I officially dubbed that "Ghetto Strike" because of all the new urban-style, "hip" tunes. I don't know if its due to the cross-culture influence from the West, or their aim to relate to the times. What I do know is that it's not fighting music, it's more or less something you'd expect to sing or dance to...
I'm gonna add my comment to this. I pretty much agree with you on the "ghetto" tunes becuase they just don't seem exactly what I would've expected for a SF game. Rest of the music outside the intro and player selection is perfectly fitting to the stage and characters so the game is still track-worthy, I'm just glad we don't have to put up with the bore that was 2nd impact.
don't wanna tangle with you, I'd rather tangle with him.
I think I'm gonna bash his head in...
