The disc actually sprouts teeth and spikes that reach down to the lens so they can scratch it up and knock it around as the disc is spinning. That's how they damage drives.

ok, i can understand that, but awhile ago, there were some debates about the boot discs damaging the DC lens so that's why i was asking

The laser will only do what its supposed to. Its on a track and never touches anything or moves in a manner it shouldn't.
