Thread: Who here is an active anti-war protester?

  1. Who here is an active anti-war protester?

Don't bring your little debates into this, i'm just curious as to who has been actively going to demonstrations. So far i've been to the big one that was held in my city of Cardiff and I went down to London especially to attend the huge peace march on the 15th february in which around 2 million people took part! I've also been to numerous presentations and seminars on the matter. It's good fun overall, keeps me informed and it's important to put the pressure on the government to show just how unpopular this potential war is. I'm a pacifist and real life violence really repulses me, especially hugely powerful countries attacking a small nation that would get utterly crushed within a week thus making the middle east even more unstable. The terrorist repurcussions aren't lost on me either as that's the only way these fundamentalists can fight back.

So who here has picked up a placard and taken to the streets over this issue?

  2. I've been to a few demonstrations so far this year. Most recently, the F15 one in San Francisco. Thankfully, nobody put a camera to my face at any time for a cleverly edited piece on the protests. I never have anything worth saying when a camera is in my face.

  3. I got interviewed during the Cardiff demonstration by some students. I hope that doesn't find it's way onto the internet

  4. At OU, we had a pretty big demonstration on Feb. 12th. I think something around 200 people showed up in front of Bizzell. We are also planning one the day after we go to war, should we go to war. I've sent numerous letter to my reps to which I've recieved no reply. I also attended a debate on the war with Iraq held by the school, although I had no part in setting it up. It was really interesting. Then we had the usual priests come to talk on campus, telling all the Muslims that they're going to hell. So I'd say I've been pretty active.

    SC

Of course. You're in J.C. Watts territory.

You know you've been in Oklahoma too long when this is considered normal.

Yes, I have license to mock OU, I used to go there.

  9. Shamed to say I missed the big one, I stoped going to demonstrations a few year ago, at that time there was just a bunch of punks ruining it for every one (yelling things that didn't have anything to do with it etc), and some shit might have been funny like being treated like a future criminal by police (filming), being brought into interigations as soon as some shitty thing happen was not. I don't feel like I stopped because of the hassle or stupid people in our lines though, some ways just works better.

    No honestly.
I think the last one I went to was like a decade ago when I was like 21 and it was against rascism.
