I read about this at IGN. Sounds like it might come out to be pretty good, like that fighting game was.

Activision announces details on console X-men RPG
» The mutants do the roleplaying thing.
News | Monday, February 24, 2003 | Nayan Ramachandran [Staff Writer]
After months of vague specualtion, Activision has finally led the preverbial mutant out of the bag and announced the first official details on its X-men RPG.
The first X-Men console RPG will be called X-men Legends and tell the story of a relatively unknown mutant named Magma who first appeared in Marvel's New Mutants title. Players can choose to control up to four different X-Men, including series mainstays Wolverine, Cyclops, Angel, Nightcrawler, Jean Grey (Phoenix), Gambit, Colossus, Psylocke, Storm, Forge, Beast, Iceman, and many more.
The game is being developed by PC developers Raven Software, well known for Hexen, Heretic II, Soldier of Fortune, and the upcoming Quake 4. X-Men Legends will be both Raven's first console game and first RPG.
From early reports on the game, it looks as if the game will more closely resemble traditional PC RPGs like the Baldur's Gate series rather than console role-playing. Several Marvel writers have been brought in to write the story for Legends, including Joey Casey, Joe Kelly, and Steven Seagle.
X-Men Legends is slated to hit all three home consoles in late 2003, with no scheduled Japanese or European release yet.

Freedom is a road seldom travelled by the multitude...
I always thought X-Men could be the basis of a good RPG. But I'm guessing it will be like Record of Lodoss War or Gauntlet in that it will have minor RPG upgrades but focus more on combat? That's cool just as long as the fighting and gameplay is great. Maybe one level would be Master Mold's lair where you could fight off swarms of Sentinals![]()
I think the reason for them making a great addition to an RPG is the built in story revolving around them being so powerful and the colourful cast of misfits they have.
I also love the idea of a Marvel writer penning the series, so it doesn't end up as a cheesy knockoff. Perhaps a cheesy original, but no knockoff.![]()

I'll be looking forward to this. Any change in the X-Men game formula is a positive one, and this new undertaking could really help broaden the horizons of comic book character games.

If Grant Morrison writes it, I'll buy it, otherwise I think I'll pass. All we need is a longwinded Rpg by Chris Clairemont in the same vein as his longwinded comics. Of course he'd be able to explain why Psylocke (whom he killed) is in the game at all.
Get this month's GI for the pics, it looks very solid. From what I've read it has destructable environments, character swapping when one is down, flash back sequences(when you talk to a character in down time in the X-Mansion, they recall a flashback and you get to play that scene from the old X-Men comics), experience gaining/leveling up, tag team type moves(Wolverine and Colossus's famous 'Fast ball special' where Colossus throws Wolverine at a great velocity and strength with Wolvie's claws fully extended) a fairly large cast of characters that almost anyone can like and some good design.
Although I'm a bit puzzled by the whole Magma thing, it's about time they made an X-Men RPG to finally use their team aspects. BTW For those who are not in the know, Colossus died in the comics but they seem to have brought him back with the a recent costume close to what he would look like if he lived I suppose. I think it's cool they did that to give players more choices and to give the X-Men more powerhouse characters.
If I had a scanner I'd scan the pics for ya but you guys will probably have to wait for more press or get the new GI.
Ten Bucks says Colossus comes back from the great beyond because of the X2 flick. Also this game must feature Emma Frost, best new good guy in New Xmen comic.
