Why anyone could not like the 3D GTAs is beyond me. Anyway, I share the "I prefer Liberty over Vice" sentement as well. I'm happy the game sold as well as it did, I just hope they don't dumb down the next installement like they did with Vice, it was a cake walk compared to part 3.
I think GTA is full of glitches but none of them are big enough to squander the fun of the whole package. The game is open ended in the way that you're free to explore, beat up and uncover the landscape. You can also do many missions not formulated with the original story such as cabbie riding, pizza delivery service, police chases, putting out fires, etc.
A game doesn't sell 8.5 million copies because it sucks; there's something driving the sales. The fact is that the game is executes quite well with a very good underground storyline, excellent music compilation and not-perfect but solid gameplay mechanics. If you don't like choice then you can make it linear by simply doing the missions.
I also love the fact that in Vice you could buy property and make some dough on the things. It's a nice addition.
While the game isn't going to be as tight controlled as a Mario Kart, ICO, or Zelda (nothing is as good as a Zelda, maybe a Mario platformer) it excells and comes together as a full package the way it needs to in order for the games concept to take full bloom -- reason for being popular.
You may not like it, but that doesn't mean it's not a good game.
p.s. I prefer Liberty as well, but it's simply because I played the thing so much upon release that when Vice hit I was drained on the title. I think this happened for alot of people.

Andrew, sales are the worst measuring stick for game quality out there. Many folks here are fans of games that sold poorly, now, by using the sales=game quality mindset, all of these games suck. Despite that not being the case, in theory.

Is the new game going to take place in San Francisco or something? Anyways It would be nice if it gave us the ability to select our own difficulty level...and a new a aiming system would also be nice.I just hope they don't dumb down the next installement like they did with Vice, it was a cake walk compared to part 3.![]()
I don't know if all you fools sincerely hate the game or are just going with the flow. From my experience with GTA:VC didnt give me a better experience than I had with GTA3. Think the city design was better in the first one or something, VC just wasn't as fun for me when it came to screwin around.
As far as the sales go, going back to the original post in this thread. I think it's really nuts to hear how much this game has sold. This is like Nintendo proportions, interesting to hear nonetheless.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, and overall, the additions I really like.
It's like this:
GTA3: Better envoirnment, better soundtrack, Better weapons (better how you can have more than one type of weapon).
GTAVC: Better looking, Better vehicles, Better mini-games, Better missions, Better voice acting.
I just prefer 3, myself.
