Fury: You know what they say about different strokes... Heh - if I were you, don't ever go to tourneys.,,because it will just make your head hurt MORE! you have too many gaming ethics and would probably just run around calling everyone cheap.
I never played at tournament level (and thus haven't been exposed to this outside of MvC2), but I think think the fact that you gain super meter for whiffing attacks is retarded. That first video was so cheesy it made my eyes hurt. I realize the validity of the tactic, but it should have never made it into the game in the first place.Originally posted by Reno
I'll post some videos from Evolution 2K2. I probably posted them before, but oh well.
Edit: hurray.

GGXX doesn't do this, as I recall.

This is an awesome video, I think every arcade should have some deep voiced Japanese guy just yelling. It'd be like the "GOOOOAL" guy in soccer, but for SF.
The main thing about that is both the players have the same strategy, hence why it ended up like that. If one of them had been a different character or been more aggressive in the outset, the match would have flowed very different.Originally posted by FuryFox

Ah, but Bahn, I have played in tournaments...and they were of the MvC2 variety. I have witnessed cheapness personified.Originally posted by bahn

I wasn't really complaining, and I thought they were great vids. My problem is with the game system itself. If you didn't get meter for whiffing moves, people wouldn't do that. But you do, so they do. It's not as bad as the super-jumping-fierce-mashing that happens in MvC2, trust me.
Super Turbo had a similiar nuance in terms of building meter
Lot's of jabbing, right? 3rd Strike should have had a way to build up meter ala KOF. In GGXX you can running charges tension which doesn't make much sense.Originally posted by bahn

Not quite. In ST, you only got meter for special moves that you did. You didn't get meter for doing normal moves, which is different from, say C-Groove CVS2, where you get meter for blinking, or from breathing.Originally posted by soundwave

The screen was a lot smaller back then, and there weren't too many special moves you could do without leaving yourself vulnerable, so the game didn't really turn into a charge your meter fest like Alpha 2/3, or 3S.
I don't mind the meter building in GGXX really. You're *constantly* using the meter for something, as opposed to most SF games, where you pretty much build meter to blow on your super/custom whatever.
If you mean the charging, it would have created the exact same scenario. It's just a different way of doing the same thing.3rd Strike should have had a way to build up meter ala KOF.Or EX moves, which make up a pretty big amount of regular attacks in SFIII.You're *constantly* using the meter for something, as opposed to most SF games, where you pretty much build meter to blow on your super/custom whatever.
ALl of these are great fun to watch but remind me of how much I suck at 2D fighters... I wish I had compition to learn from.![]()
