Thread: The Last of the Mohicans DVD pisses me off.

  1. The Last of the Mohicans DVD pisses me off.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Beautiful scenery, an awesome score, fast action, great characters and an emotionaly gripping story make this a masterpiece. I've owned the VHS tape for years, and finally got around to picking up the DVD last week. It's pretty bare-bones as far as features go, but the improved picture alone I thought would make it worth it. The DVD is labeled as a "Director's Cut" and claims to have extra footage added. I wasn't too crazy about this, as I think the original version released in theaters was perfect, but whatever. When I get around to watching the movie, however, I notice that more old content has been CUT OUT than new content has been added! It seems that the director wanted Hawkeye (Daniel-Day Lewis) to be a more serious character, so he went in and removed some of his dialogue, consisting mostly of quips and wise-ass comments. A small amount of gore was also deleted- in the end, when a bad guy gets impaled, the shot of it is edited and his reaction is shown in slow-motion instead. The only cut scene I didn't mind TOO much was a part where grey canvas was used to simulate boulders in the background- the result looked REALLY fake. Still, the scene in question was failry important...I would have left it in (and maybe have bothered to find REAL boulders to film in front of instead). I wouldn't mind all this crap except that the original version isn't available on DVD...George Lucas syndrome all over again. So, for now, I'm still suck watching my grainy VHS copy, which is at least widescreen.

    Any fans of this movie?

  2. Well, I like this movie alot too. Its been awhile since I wached it last time, and I was thinking about picking up the dvd.

So its very sad to hear about the unnecessary tampering with it, on DC dvd. Why do these directors(Lucas, Spielberg, etc) think they can go and do something to "fix" things that dont really need any fixing in the first place? It really pisses me off

  3. I remember watching this movie on an airplane when I was little.

    I seriously wanted to die.
