Thread: My supergun

  1. Yeah, but who wants to flip a 27" TV?

  2. 480i flickers, big screens look ugly, any time you dick with a video signal there is a quality loss (and yes I built something similar to ELM-chan's component->RGB converter) upscanning doesn't look as good as running it on a monitor that natively supports that resolution/frequency. Huge monitor it may be, but it still looks nicer on a smaller screen, and like JM said, who wants to flip a 27" TV? I assume most people here are getting superguns for shmups, well a huge percentage play in vertical.

    Gohan wants a supergun too...

I don't know how to make one, although I could probably bumble my way through it. Javing an RGB monitor isn't an option for me, I just have no space.

  4. Of course the fledgling jamma enthusiast could just bite the bullet and get one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...212368805&rd=1

$235 bucks later(plus $120 to ship it) and I've got 29" of RGB glory all wired up Neo Geo style and ready to go. Any supergun I'm likely to build would eat up three times that dollar amount in time spent. Time is money baby!

    who doesnt!@#

ok maybe im an exception. i have 2 27" tvs right next to each other, one in tate of course. wish it was rgb. you bastards.

anyways as for size, id consider 20" to be minimum, preferably 24-27". and i play close to the tv most of the time. mainly say this cause thats the size of most screens on arcade machines.

and now for more opinion. rgb screens look better than hdtvs for games. at least until game resolution is upped a bit.

  6. Pa, I hate you! that cab is fucking awesome. Doesn't look too big 'n bulky either. I might be able to convince the missus to let me have one in the family room.

Sitdown cabs are quite nice... I have one in my kitchen.

i'm going to use a small rgb monitor for my supergun. but what i want is something like an xrgb2, but instead of outputting vga, it would output component 480i. i just bought a nice hdtv, and from what seen says, this is exactly what i'm looking for.
