Thread: My supergun

  1. Melf, those Pony cabs are wicked small man. It has a footprint comparable to a refrigerator. I have another that I paid $280 for and I can easily say it's the best gaming hardware purchase I've ever made. Just find some sort of Bubble Bobble/Bust a Move board and I'm sure the wifey'll just melt

BTW, how's that AES doing these days?

You didn't get my email? I thought I sent you one.

It's working like a charm. Thanks again.

I'm just kind of confused about all the options and what they do. I just put the game in English and that's it.

Question: Is there a way to see what's saved on my memory card?

Do you have any pictures? Did you compare it to other connection methods? BTW, I am not talking about upscanning when converting to component.

You don't necessarily need a 27" screen, the adapter just gives you the benefit of having an option to play it in high quality on any new TV instead of being tied down to a 13" CRT from the 80's. I do however agree that the smaller the pixels are the better the image looks especially with a resolution like 320x224, but that doesn't stop me from playing these games through an emulator on my 21" Sony monitor.

Anyway, I think that people now are more space conscientious. If I already had this device I might look into getting myself a monitor that flips 90º on a swivel. I would also use it for watching TV and playing other video games. What's the point of having five devices that are structured the same way just because their inputs differ.

I can name several reasons why we should take advantage of component video, 1) because as a color space it actually represents more colors than RGB and so any hardware that functions completely in YUV can potentially give a higher palette, 2) it is a new standard which now widely accepted, and 3) it provides RGB quality.

basemies: There is already a VGA to component converter from Audio Authority found here. I'm sure that you can find it for much less on e-bay. Just search "VGA component". I have not tested these but they should work on an arcade source and a TV capable of 480i.

do you think it would be possible to change that box so it accepts scart cables and converts that to component? that is what i am looking for. i'm not sure if the pinouts are the same on american/japanese and european consoles are the same, so i have no idea if that would actually work. if anyone knows, could they let me know? if i need to be more specific, i can explain more about the idea i have.

Go here and look under LT Accessories or here. These are Euro Scart connectors, so you'll probably need Euro cables.

    From newsgroups:
The [scart] cable supports RGB. The problem is that the scart sockets on japanese TV screens are not connected the same way European and US sockets are. The only similar pin is the red signal of the scart plug.
1.What you have to do is open your scart lead and disconnect all cables.
2.Each litle cable color has it's on significance (green cable =green signal,...)
3.Follow up the instruction on how to solder a full rgb scart cable

Japanese Scart pinout at gamesx.com. Euro Scart pinout here.

well, instead of going to all that trouble, would it be possible to just make cables for my systems that will connect to the vga connector in the audio authority converter? it would be more convenient to have scart input because cables are easy to come across, but that's too much trouble if a simpler solution is availiable.

Of course, but I thought you wanted to go through the dumb 133t consumer route where you just wanted ready made products and connect them together, no matter how much it cost.

Like I said in the PM, it would be simpler to make your own cables but you'd have to know a bit about electronics to do so. Using VGA also makes it possible to use a standard manual switch box to switch between video sources. Commissioning someone to do it might cost you a bundle though, and not many people have enough passion to make a Genesis2->VGA cable.

i don't really like wasting money, so i'll learn what i need to know to make the cables needed for this project. thanks.

  10. 480x is nice if you have games that support it, but honestly I think anything older than a ps1 looks best in pure RGB, I don't have any facts to back that up like color compression on component or anything like that, to my eye all my older systems look the best running in RGB, 'cept for the GC and DC whic look best in VGA (which is basically 480p on a computer monitor)
