Sony doubles amount of Network Adaptors

Due to a demand that's higher than was originally expected, Sony is doubling the amount of PlayStation 2 Network Adaptors shipping to stores (bringing the amount to 1,000,000) by March 31st, 2003.

13 titles are online-enabled and five new titles will be released within a few months:

On average, 2,500 new people are joining the online community everyday and in January the adaptor outsold Xbox Live units by 63 percent (though it is $10 cheaper than the Xbox Live kit).

"More than 400,000 people have registered to play Madden NFL 2003 online, just one of our games that support PlayStation 2 online," said John Riccitiello, president, Electronic Arts. "The enthusiasm shown by players is very encouraging -- we plan to build this capability into many more PlayStation 2 games from Electronic Arts."

Good to see Sony do what they should have done when this thing was first released. Now if only they could spell the word "adapter."
