    Are gaming's best days...

I'm curious as to what the numbers here are.

As much as I have enjoyed and still enjoy games of the past, I think gaming's best days are still to come.

There are no limits to this medium. Technology will continue to evolve and provide more immersive experiences not possible today.

  2. You know, a few months ago I would've clicked on "Past" without hesitation, but lately I've been playing so many great, current games, I can't help but feel that the best is yet to come.

  3. Best is yet to come, no doubt.

  4. I voted for "Past". There's no denying that there's a great wealth of quality games headed our way in the future. The only thing missing is the feeling of going into your local store with complete and utter excitement about picking up Game X with little to no knowledge other than mags. Today I'm overwhelmed with instant media that lessens that excitement factor. Nostalgia might also play a part in my vote.

  5. You know, I would have said 'Past' myself, mainly because of, with the added cost of game development on the next-gen systems, I thought that most small developers would die off and all the wacky fringe titles that I tend to enjoy would die off as well and we'd be suffering through a glut of Maddens and Tomb Raiders. But there's still a good amount of weird, non-commercial games coming out. Not as much as there was on, say the PS1 or earlier, but still it's nice to see that creativity isn't dead yet and it gives me hope that even better stuff will come in the future. I'd say 'Future', with 'Past' a close second. I'd be even more hopeful about the future if 2D, hand drawn stuff would make a comeback.

  6. I'll say "future", as I said in my 2D vs. 3D editorial thingy a while back, gaming will see evolution in each type of gaming. Right now, the complexites of the third dimension in an interactive environment are finally being understood, which means we'll see more refined 3D gaming in the future. I think the past year has really seen the biggest evolution in 3D gaming since Mario 64.

  7. Future. The great games of the past will always be around, but you never know when the next big innovative game may strike.

  8. if the present is any indication of where we're going in the future, it's certainly the past.
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

  9. I said past only because of the quality of SNES - NES era, and the quantity of PSX - N64 era don't seem to be as fruitiful nowadays.

I wouldn't mark it as extremely bad, now, though.

  10. For me it's the past just because of the feeling I got when playing a new game as a kid. Today does have its great games, but there is something about going back and playing those great games of the past. Whether its 2D or 3D doesnt really matter to me, I like many more 2D games then 3D, but the 3D games that I do like are amazing. In a way I am undecided, because each age has its great games that can't really be compared to the greats of the age before it.
