I can't give you any further insights into the genre, but I can give one peice of advice: play Fantavision.
Do it now.
I'm not very well versed in the world of puzzle gaming. I've been addicted from time to time, but only to the big hits like Tetris Attack, Puzzle Fighter, mean bean machine Bust a Move, Mr Driller and Columns.
If there are any 133t puzzle fans over here: could you please suggest any titles to me that would give me a better understanding of this genre?
Thanks in advance.

The big hits are popular for a reason (though I think Mr. Driller is awful).
Puyo Puyo 2 (MD) and Puchi Carat (arcade, import PSX) are must-plays.
Very underrated game.Originally posted by Regus

Xs you've covered the major ones, a few favs of mine:
Adventure of Lolo (3 NES, 1 Gameboy) action puzzle
Toki Tori (GBC) action puzzle
Musapey's Choco Marker (Dreamcast) addictive 3D puzzler, review at www.swirlvision.com I love it![]()
Lost Golem (Dreamcast) a bit too simple but unique
Denki Blocks (GBA) a original concept, plenty of modes
Others to come... *-neo
I'm not sure if it's a puzzle game or a strategy game but I highly recommend Pikmin.
And no one should pass on Fantavision given its current price.
Puyo Puyo 2= mean bean machine right?
I'll try out fantavision ASAP since it's all cheap and and all...
Has anyone got any opinions on
Battle Balls
Magical Drop 3
Devil Dice
Magical drop 3, buy it on import saturn now.
Great game, even though I suck at it now.
!
These are my favorite puzzle games of all tymez:
-Magical Drop 3 (Neo Geo/Saturn) I think there may have been a playstation version but Saturn one is the best. Definitely my favoritee.
-Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo X (For Matching Service) Dreamcast Import or you can play any of the ones released for the PS and Saturn
-Puyo Puyo (or Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine) Slime popping fun.
-Columns (a sentimental favorite) There was a 4 player version released on something.
-Tetris Attack (for SNES) has no relation to Tetris whatsoever it is also called Pokemon Puzzle League on the N64 but I think the SNES one is better.
EDIT: Magical Drop is by far the most nerve wracking/skillful puzzle game I've ever played--You kinda enter this zone where you and your opponently are constantly attack and counter attack each other. I also played devil dice 4 player--it is fun and crazy but it's hard to attack the other players while concentrating on your own dice. i got frustrated with IQube in the later stages but it's definitely addicting. Also, How could I forget Chu-Chu Rocket! That's like almost as good a party game as bomberman.
Get the DC version of Puzzle Fighter, because it has the extra modes... which are really cool.
I highly recommend Intelligent Qube.
Crossroad Crisis/Tic Tac Chicken is fun too.
