Thread: Comic Strip?

Agreed. I am done with TNL Week-in-Reviews.

  2. Actually, I've been meaning to do a TNL comic strip based on the thread discussions in TNL's Discussion Board .

Really offensive stuff like Bahn in a monkey suit eating monkeys or something 'bout that boob tread . But I don't know WHEN I'll get around to actually do it....

  3. If anybody does a comic strip make sure to include a ferocious genie which is enslaved somehow to the forces of one comically stupid kid!

    That's entertainment at its finest.

  4. For me the hardest part isn't being 'funny' week after week. Jokes form fairly easy if you just stop and think about them.

The hardest part is trying to convey it in a way that the unitiated can just jump in and enjoy. A cursory knowledge of some things may be expected but that's it.

Penny Arcade's biggest problem these days is their comics, by themselves, are barely funny and usually just confusing because you have to go and read a 4 paragraphy diatribe about how Gabe wanted to buy Tetris Worlds and some store employee said something stupid.

Upon reading the whole news post, you are then qualified to understand the joke.

Not to bash, Penny Arcade. Oldschool PA is still the finest, before the newer artwork I feel. But I know I'm not the only one who notices it about the current format.

So in conclusion to long explanation, I personally feel the most difficult part is visually explaining and making the joke as accessable as possible.

  5. There are different styles of comics. Some require having read all the previous ones to understand what the heck is going on rather than being like the Sunday funnies which each comic is more or less isolated. I definitely prefer the former myself and find too many people go for the latter, ending up as something I just don't like.

Penny arcade is the only real exception for me and even there I don't bother to look at any comics I may have missed because of this isolated 'sameness' makes them all more or less alike.

  7. Sorry, I'm doing one of my own, and I'll be the first one to admit that with everything going on, I'm not so reliable. I do like the idea though.

    That's what I was thinking.

Nothing contiguous, nothing with plot. Just any short you may have done or if you feel like doing one.

  9. Plus Tycho uses such huge words it's hard to understand the diatribe in the first place. He said he had the russian red cold or something, then used small sentences to describe it in an odd fashion (such as a river of unpleasant moisture.)

Meh. I don't find penny-arcade that funny most of the time, but I do get a cackle out of them. PVPonline.com is a good one most of the time.

    Nice idea. You go first.
