Thread: Converting PAL to NTSC...

  1. Converting PAL to NTSC...

OK, I've got myself a couple of PAL DVD's I bought when I went to England. I'm trying to figure out a way to watch them here. I have a TV that has 2 VGA ports, and was wondering if I could run the DVD's through my Powerbook. To set it all up is a bit of a pain(IE: cable splicing to get an audio signal into my receiver...), so I thought I'd just ask here first.
    Boo, Hiss.

  2. Well, You should be able to watch PAL dvds on you pc/laptop dvd drive. Check the specs and look around the net on how to turn off Region coding on the drive, and if it supports the PAL settings.

But are planning on watching it on your tv or laptop? I'm sure you can watch PAL dvds on regular pc monitors without any extra wiring or decoders, but I dont know if the same would work for regular NTSC tvs.

I personally use my Daewood 5700 to watch PAL disks on my Sony tv, and it works just fine for the $80 I paid for it. While it doesnt do the perfect PAL conversion, the quality is usually pretty good anyway.
