That's not true anymore, not since the development of the DTSi codec, which allows very efficient in-game surround sound to be used. SSX Tricky uses it, as does GTA: Vice. Also the digital signal should be of higher fidelity than using RCA/phono ins, so you'll be able to crank up the volume more.

    Mine's a 500A. Sweet.

It's nice to know that I can hack it to make it region free should I ever desire to do so, although it would mess up my remote control functions.

  3. I've decided to hold off on the system selector and optical audio switcher. When I play a game, I play one at a time, so manually switching cables won't be much of a problem for me.

I'm still going for the Kenwood system though. I'm not exactly sure what I need next. To get 5.1 sound out of my DVD player, exactly what cable do I need? >>>> Here <<<< is the back of my DVD player.

As for my consoles, should I just get the Monster brand cables designed for each system?

  4. Is that thing capable of 5.1 Surround?

My Sony has the 6channel output and the Kenwood has the 6channel input, so...

Shinobi: Your player (like mine) uses a coaxial surround sound. But don't go buy a $60 coax cable, a single GOOD RCA cable will do the trick just fine.

    It's the one labeled "5."

Let me know how the Kenwood sounds in your setup, I have my eye on it now.

    Alrighty.

I'll try it out on each of my systems, plus my dvd player. I bought it online through etronics.com yesterday. I should get it sometime next week.

  8. How much did you have to pay with shipping?

  9. $236.99 total.

Awesome. Now I just need to decide if I want to use Johnpv's cash to be good and pay back some loans...or be evil and buy this setup
