Thread: i think my ps2 is dying! HELP!!!

  1. i think my ps2 is dying! HELP!!!

i was playing baldur's gate today and the music get skipping. it was pretty damn annoying but i just figured there may be a smudge on the disc. then i put in mark of kri and it would lock up at the loading screen every time i tried!

both games are on dvds and i know others have complained about their ps2's not reading either cd or dvd after a while. but then i tried vice city and for the 10 minutes or so i played it worked fine and that is also on a dvd.

what the hell should i do?! is there a disc i can buy that cleans it and are they effective?

Open up the PS2 and clean the lens with alcohol. It fixes EVERYTHING.
Check GameFAQs for a FAQ on it, it's very simple. Took me 5 minutes the first time, hardest part is not losing the screws.

  3. rubbing alcohol? seems a little risky...

  4. wow.. sounds pretty brutal.. i hope mine never does that.
But yeah just a small amount. It better not drip cause if it does!...

    Clean the lens anyway.
Nah man, you dip a q-tip in rubbing alcohol and let all the excess drip off, then clean the lens with the q-tip for a good 20 seconds, then wipe it off with the dry end of the q-tip. I haven't had a single problem with my problemful PS2 since.
