Isn't it like that with any game?

The tank controls only really suck when the camera is fixed. It's not in PN03. It sounds like it works fine to me. Get over it.
Yeah but in PN03 they're VERY slow and sluggish. You get used to it though...

  3. So it controls as sluggish as it is animated?

    Saw that one coming.

Anyone who swears no less than seven times while describing a game is OK in my book

I was really hoping to be pleasantly surprised by PN03.

Now Viewtiful Joe better be as awesome as it looks.

Some games you enjoy despite disliking the controls like RE or a bemani game or even STeel Battalion where, though the controls are cool, it totaly makes make the game much more difficult. GV like Steel Battalion is a game that forces you to learn and master the controls. I just got really into it.

  7. I just finished with a marathon session of P.N.03. Anyone who plays this game for a short time will walk away disappointed. No doubt about that. That's the bad news.

The good news is after successive plays, in which you memorize enemy movements and patterns, there is plenty of arcade-like enjoyment to be had.

The meat of the game is dodging enemy fire and stringing together combos, which when performed skillfully, is just as satisfying as Devil May Cry's combo system.

Anyone who was hoping for a game similar to DMC is setting himself or herself up for HUGE disappointment.

There isn't much of a story, the presentation is sorely lacking, but the game is fun. It's a throwback to arcade games of the 80's. Walk into a room; destroy enemies, rinse, and repeat. Beating the game isn't where the meat of the game is--massive point totals from wild combo attacks are the basic gist.

For what it's worth I think this game wipes the floor with DMC2, and I'm enjoying it more then Z.O.E 2, because the combo system really clicked with me.

Some of you sound like your mind is made up-your not convinced this game is worthy of your attention. I think there are many people on this board who'll find plenty of playtime out of this one.

Hopefully they'll be a place for it on the Guinness record boards.

  8. Gamespot's preview/review is utter garbage. Half the items in it aren't even true. It's like they never even played the game.

Here's a review from me as I have actually played it:

    This is NOT Resident Evil.

It's an old school shooter in 3D. Let me go through it and see if I can explain that comment.

GRAPHICS - People comparing this to a PS2 game have never played a PS2 game. To make a blanket statement that it "has jaggies" is way overboard. The graphics are nice and clean. Yes, it's not as smooth as could be on the GC, but it is *nowhere* near as bad as a PS2 game. The game has two basic environments - installation and desert. The installation is very clean. A minimalist style that suits the game well. Lots of white and gray. The desert environments are nondescript. It looks like a desert and caverns.

MUSIC - rocking beat - nothing amazing but works well with the game. Vanessa will shake her ass to the music. And I must mention how much glorious attention to detail has been given to her ass - it looks accurate down to the last shake.

CONTROLS - Very basic yet very tough to get a hold of. Basically, you can jump forward and backward and side to side by pressing B and the corresponding direction. Also, by pressing either the right or left shoulder buttons Vanessa will sidestep in that direction. Tap a direction twice in a row and she'll sidestep and then somersault in that direction. The Y button performs a forward or backward roll depending on the control stick push. X switches between targets. Now here's the twist - the special attacks. Depending on the suit (more below) you will have two to three special moves which are activated by street fighter-esq moves using the D-pad and A. Z lets you perform a 180 turn. Control is smooth. I really have no idea what the hell people are talking about when they say the controls are "tank like" If you actually spend time with the game and don't suck you'll be pulling off combos without much effort. It's all about timing. You have to perform your button presses in rythm. You can't just jam the right shoulder eight times and expect to twirl across the room.

GAMEPLAY - This is not a search the area to find the missing key or flip the switch game. This is a SHOOTER. Nothing more. There are a variety of suits which can then be powered up by the points you gather during the stages. Each suit has different qualities and special moves. The key to this game is to chain kills to maximize points. You can only shoot while standing still so all you Max Payne whores can just look away right now. There is a timer at the upper right corner within which you have to complete the chain or it starts all over upon your next kill. Special moves kill enemies quickly and often more than two at a time so you can see how this fits in with the chaining. Also, you are invincible while performing them. The only annoying thing is that there is a random lag after performing the move of invincibility and then you're vulnerable. So if you're under fire you better be jamming some button so that as soon as you are vulnerable Vanessa is moving her ass to safety. Chaining is the key to the game. Additionally you get no damage bonus in each room you kill all the enemies without getting hit yourself. Basic, clean, and beautiful - the Layer Section philosophy.

OVERALL - an excellent and deep shooter with a great sense of style. Frustrating at first (play it on easy first time through - trust me)but like Gunvalkyrie; give it time and you'll see the true beauty of the game. Highly recommended to shooter fans.

YOU MUST GIVE IT TIME. It took around hour 14 before it all came together. The first day of 12 hours with it I hated it. The second day it came together and I LOVE IT

  9. Sounds kinda like GunGrave, to me. I'll pass, for now.

  10. I played it for a little while and I must say it plays like ass. I think they're trying to take this "coolness" thing too far. I was not impressed.
