Thread: GG # Reload Impressions

  1. GG # Reload Impressions

Let me know if this has been covered/posted already.

I had a chance to play this quite a bit in Japan, and I came away with a "Why did they release this" feeling. The changes they put in seemed almost arbitrary. They left things in like Sol's Dust loop, and Slayer's infinite, yet they removed Dizzy's Ice Spike FRC, which really changes her game. You can now FRC her 2HS instead. Time to relearn Dizzy.

On the upshot, they've increased Jam's damage, and decreased the time for her power ups. Her 22S now charges much faster, which lets you do 2D->22S to charge up her 214K. Which can lead to some insane combos. Her 236S->S/HS moves seem to knock down now, instead of doing 3 hits of piddly damage.

I wasn't able to test if they left burst cancelling in. I didn't see anybody else doing it though, so take that for what you will.

They toned Eddie down a little, but not enough to really make a difference. They've apparently taken away some of his unblockable setups, but some of them still exist. *shrug* I still get owned for free by Eddie, so I couldn't really tell if the changes did anything.

Everybody was playing Robo-Ky. He seems pretty gimmicky, but then, I didn't play him in the home version of GGXX, so I can't say if he's any different. A lot of people were doing this dust combo that I *think* finished with his air dust. It's a move that does multiple hits and a ridiculous amount of damage for the ease it was done with.

Testament is even scarier now. He doesn't seem to have lost anything, and his skull projectile is HELLA fast now. You can combo it after a sweep and it will connect. You lose some of the setups with it, but he still has his crazy wake up games with the traps and his overhead, and of course, all of the Gravedigger combos. Again, he really didn't need any of the changes they gave him, but I think they did improve him.

I couldn't find anything different with Bridget, but I'm not very good with him, so it's hard for me to comment. He certainly didn't seem any worse.

Graphically, the game looks about the same. The visuals for the RC and the FRC are much cooler looking I guess, but I'm pretty indifferent about the new burst meter.

I hope Sammy isn't getting the Capcom upgrade syndrome. Some of the changes are "neat", but it baffles me that they would leave things like Slayer's infinite in the game, while removing Dizzy's FRC. It's certainly no worse of a game than GGXX, but I can't say it's any better of a game with the additions they made.

Thanks for the impressions. Did you manage to play Baiken at all? I am spending a lot of time figuring out her game and I wonder if it changed significantly enough that I should hold off?

  3. I didn't play her at all, but from what I saw of other people, it didn't look like much had changed. People still used her the same way as they did in GGXX. Her game still revolves around pressure strings with tataimei mats and high damage air combos. I can't speak about anything specific.

She wasn't a very popular character in the arcades I visited though, which is unfortunate since she's pretty cool.

One thing I forgot to mention is that they've changed a lot of the colors. Jam's Dust color is now this pretty cool white and black outfit, not the pure black she had before. She also has a nice blue and white one.

Did you happen to test Johhny Bravo's Dashing Mist Finer?

  5. Ooh, I forgot about that. I didn't actually see anything abusable done with it at all. Most of the Johnny players I saw stuck with the same tricks from GGXX. They did tweak his recovery on the Mist Finer cancel, so he doesn't get the huge frame adavantage that he used to. But it's still there.

They've also made it harder to get the 1 hit Ensignia at the end of his air combos, which means that it's easier (possible) for people to tech after it.

That's all I really know about Johnny though, sorry :/

  6. They made that Testament's damn skull thing faster, THANK GOD. Since I pretty much only use him and Faust these days........it could be a very useful move when I'm actually playing against real people.
Screw robo-ky. He takes damage like a bitch =/ I mean, he sounds cool but just like normal Ky, everyone uses him. He's so easy to block first of all, and second, when he's doing some fancy shmashy move, he is ridiculously easy to hit.

    Faust forever!!!

  7. Yay Sol dust loop! Too bad Bridget has not been improved, nothing like beating someone with her and then telling them the shocking realization after she does the upskirt win pose.

Yeah, I've been trying to prove that she's a great character, but the people I play with here, all think she basically sucks, I know there's a lot more to her than i have learned and I'm not giving up on her, she's a very technical character...

I know they got rid of the Tat, FRC, am I right? That's a shame since that really is a useful part of her game...

Hmm, you know, I'm not sure if they did or not. Although really, losing that doesn't really hurt her that much. If that's true, she loses one aspect of her pressure strings. But she still has her "Triforce of Bullshit":

She still has her Air Dust FRC, which is the one she really needs, and where she gets a lot of her damage from.

Baiken's biggest problem is her low vitality and getting in on certain characters (Eddie, Zappa). Beyond that, I think she's pretty solid, albeit, hard to use.

  10. Any changes to Millia aside from the earlier mentioned lower combo damage? Although that alone kinda ticks me off since I finally decided to start learning actual combos instead of just pressure tactics and already have a couple 40-50% ones in my belt.
