Thread: Phone Booth

  1. Phone Booth

I just saw this last night, and thought it was good. I don't really feel like giving full blown impressions right now; just wondering if anyone else saw it. It's one of those movies that most people will either really really like or really really hate, so I'd like to know what other people thought of it.

    All in all: good movie.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  2. I liked it. Very exciting, unexpectedly funny, and the movie never gets repetitive. Two minor complaints: I don't like some of Schumacher's camera work (I hate sudden slow down/speed ups) and the ending ending (phone rings again, someone says hello) is tacky and tacked-on.

  3. Er.. Schumacher did this?

/me recalls the horror of the two "Screwmacher" Batman films...

    Pass.

  4. Can't blame you.

The only other Schumacher film I liked was Falling Down, and it's fairly similar to Phone Booth - urban setting, very small set of principal characters, straight to-the-point.

  5. Just saw it and loved it. Perfect length, never got boring and Colin is the fucking man. Finally Schumacher has done something actually worth while. I honestly didn't expect something like this from him. I thought it was really well directed, considering there are about 3 full locations in the whole movie, this was a seriously challenging movie to film. Very easy to screw this one up, great job by the editor(s) as well.

I'm not going to say anything about the movie because anything outside of what the commercial shows you would ruin the experience.

Question about the end Who is Keifer Sulivans character? I think I missed who he was and how could he walk through the scene of the crime like that?

Oh and they showed a preview of The Italian Job, that looks awesome too. This summer is going to be absolutly amazing for movies. I can't wait.

  6. Isn't this flick the EXACT same premise of that movie with Linda Fiorentino and Wesley Snipes? Liberty Stands Still?

My thoughts exactly. I was very skeptical going into this. How can a movie that takes place almost solely in a phone booth really work, I thought. But they pulled it off nicely, and like you said, it was a perfect length and it never got boring.

My friends and I were talking about this too and came to the conclusion that he was probably a cop or an EMS worker (cuz he was standing right next to the ambulance) or something. But then again, it's a minor point that was sorta necessary in order for the movie to have complete closure, so I don't think the writers really had anything specific in mind to explain his presense at the crime scene.

    And two words: dick hand.

Phone Booth is based on a 1996 short, so...

Some people are even claiming that this film is a Joy Ride rip-off. The connections between this and Liberty Stands Still can be seen easily, but Joy Ride? Sheesh!

A friend and I thought the "At least that's what the hookers are telling us" line was funny. Who knew they had so much credence?

  9. Yeah I saw this on bootleg believe going to the theater. Excellent, excellent movie. I too was one of the ones that was skeptical about it, because the thought of a movie based in and around a phone booth sounded stupid. I'm glad Schumacher proved me wrong though. Won't have me looking forward to anything else of his work, but I won't be so fast to dismiss it.

Well said. Hookers turned out to be a highlight of the movie. Anyone know when this was filmed? It was delayed wasn't it? Wonder how long it took to shoot.
