Thread: Shinobi

  1. I'm not sure I've ever played a videogame that wasn't repetitive. Is there one that isn't in some way repetitve?

    Shinobi ruled.

    Pa

  2. The last boss was hard but I loved it. It's been ages since i've come across a genuinelly hard boss so it was so refreshing. Loved the challenge.

  3. The only thing i really loved of this game we're the slashes and how everyone would freeze until shinobi put his blade back . A good game for a good bunch of niche players.

There's not many design flaws in Shinobi. Sinobi PS2 was basically groundwork like Mario 64, VF1, and VR racing. In Mario 64 it's basically Super mario Bros in 3D.They can't possibly add everything good about the entire 2D series in the first 3D game.Samething with Shinobi. It's basically the original Shinobi in 3D with revenge's double jump shurikens. The 3D engine is awsome and I can't wait till they add the jump kicks, surfing, horseback riding, last stage maze level. There should be level design variety galore now that the gameplay engine is down. It's a great engine too. So I wouldn't call them lazy, cause it seems like they worked pretty hard to get the engine to work similiar to the 2D shinobi's play a level until you can breeze through them feeling. So much so that they didn't care about the graphics(keep in mind that's it's the teams first PS2 game as well. That and most Sega teams except AM2 and Sonic team probably work on a REALLY low budget now that they are independant).

Shinobi is only repetitive in the background eye candy sense. The enemies are more than diverse enough, especially considering most people can actually stomach rygars and other RPG's enemy variety. The enemy and coin placement is also excellent. More than enough set ups where you have to make some kind of crazy wall to wall crap to get a coin. That and the enemies appear in all the right places to make you fall to your death.

Challenging and frustrating sometimes? Yes. Repetitive? Yes if you die enough times on one level and have to start over again. This goes for any level you play enough times. No if you manage to clear it in one go.

The backgrounds graphics do repeat.Although they're pretty well designed and are actually pretty different gameplaywise unlike some other games.
