Thread: Anyway to take out that Blockbuster transparent CD sticker

Except "Property of Blockbuster" or "Joe" or "Kevin" or some other dumb shit... unless you work in the magical mystical Gamestop where everything is perfect.

  2. Heat the sticker up with a hair dryer, and it'll come off really easily. Goo-Gone works perfectly for getting the gunk off the back of the disk.

Using those methods, I've restored a number of blockbustered games and carts to the point where nobody could tell they'd been rentals.

I never understood the motivation behind defacing a game like that. I have never written on a game of mine and I never will. One thing about GameStop however - I remember when they used to put like 4-5 price stickers on their used games, pised me off having to peel them off of the front, back of the jewel case, disc and manual, then you have to deal with the sticky residue . I'm glad they stopped that archaic practice. Still, writing anything on tour games is unforgivable. I hope "Joe" and "Kevin" both burn in hell.

  4. Luckily my Blockbuster seems to have stopped using those stickers on the discs. They were horrible, though - some times they wouldn't put the stickers on evenly and it would make the discs be off-balance, which made for some horrible sounds coming out of my PS2.

Let's hope this is a company-wide decision and not just a local one...

  5. Just as others have mentioned, Goo Gone works wonders on removing sticky residue, on both discs & cases.
Just remember to remove (paper) covers/inserts before attempting to clean the case with it though.

  6. Ugh, sadly my complete Earthbound that I bought from Gamestop says... Lee Walters. I F**KING HATE YOU LEE WALTERS!!!!

  7. Just don't buy from Blockbuster... I'll pay whatever it takes to not give those bastards my business. I hate them more than cancer.

  8. I don't normally shop at Blockbusters... but... I got Rez for $12.99 in great condition!

  9. I bought a bunch of used games at Hastings, and I found that instead of removing them (label stickers) I could take some rubbing alcohol and some cotton balls or something similar and rub it all over the label.

The printed crap all came off the label, leaving only the transparent sticker on the face of the disc. Not as elegant a solution as you were looking for, but one that works to the same end without destroying a disc.

  10. My suggestion, if you're peeling off a sticker, use a blow dryer or a heat gun and melt the sticker. At the same time, start peeling it off. Works wonders.
