Thread: How Important are Game Endings to you?

  1. I rarely care about a game's ending nowadays. Although there have been some really neat ones as of late. The most memorable one for me recently is the one in SmackDown: SYM in which a whole bunch of screwy stuff and preliminary art and such is shown. Also, the VF series credits with the endings of matches intertwined continues to rule all.

  2. Is it just me or has the focus shifted from spectacular endings to spectatcular intro's these days?

    Where's the happy medium?

Anyway, as has been said, it depends on the games.

If a game is heavily story driven, then it should have an ening that finishes the game in a correct manner.

Quick fix games don't usually need endings but it's nice to have something, just for the sake of closure.

  3. i suppose i do, its nice to have some closure or just an impressive ending to a game. hell, its the reason i played Shadows of Destiny so much. i found Torment to be one of the few games with a satisfying ending.

  4. As far as a happy medium, I think Onimusha 2 has spectacular cinemas throughout the entire game. The intro is great, the ending is great, and everything in between is excellent as well. Not to mention, the pre-rendered backgrounds in the game look great. One of the better looking PS2 games all around.

Indeed. Regardless of whether I was actually playing it or not, Xenosaga has one of the best endings...ever.

It could have been better (read: add cliffhanger) but it was still awesome.

    So yeah, endings are important.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  6. I always feel let down when the ending to a game is anything but spectaculer... that's how endings should be, like fireworks; with the finally and all that...

  7. Well depends on how good the game is, like Metroid Prime...I didn't even care much about the ending, the last bosses were a "ending" enough for me. Same pretty much goes for Castlevania SotN, they put in one, but the game overshadowed it. I do like endings that are very long that tie up the ends to a deep story, unlike a certain RPG that rhymes with "Lionel Mantasy Heaven", now RPG's ending definately matters.

Yeah, Lionel Mantasy Heaven's ending was teh suck!

  9. yes, but lionel mantasy bait's beginning and middle were suckier im less concerned with endings than before, but i feel if a game had a strong story, the story deserves an appropriate ending. i was even ok with metroids, given that the entire game was kind of only with storyline if you looked for it. wind waker, i thought, did good job of ending, thought i am really sick of the absolute end where the pirates and link sail off looking for adventure, what did that have to do with anything???? in reality the lack of endings is oen reason i dislikesega arcade to home conversions, virtua fighter and fighters megamix would have been a lot more fun for me if there was any, no matter how small, narritave tying the whole thing together.

  10. I haven't beaten Xenosaga, and to tell you the truth its kind of boring me right now. I think I am a good 20 hours in, but I just can't get myself to pick it up and start playing it again. So, is the ending really that worth it to pick it up and finish playing it?

I want to say where I am at in Xenosaga, but I am not quite sure how to do that spoiler white out thing...how do I do that again?
