I always wondered how that worked.

Ten years from now, Nintendo will still be alive and well, and there will still be a million people on the internet proclaiming their downfall.

    They aren't going anywhere.
They said the same about Atari

It's been available, but at a steep price. The Nokia N-Gage is the latest and it is designed with games in mind. The unit is not available yet, but will be sometime in 2003. With support from Sega, Namco and Capcom the unit is more than viable as an alternative to the GBA.

Yeah, but Atari was sold to Time Warner. They took the house that Bushnell built and tried to renovate it. Too bad they fucked up the foundation in doing so.

I think the Nokia N-Gage will be picked up by early adopters and that's about all. I think the price point will be too steep and the support slim and questionable in quality. Plus, Nintendo's installed base isn't going to bat an eye when the N-Gage is released; some of them may buy it, but most won't. Kind of like the PS2 to Xbox ratio only worse. There have been plenty of viable alternatives to gameboy, N-Gage is just another one that will become less and less viable, probably quicker than those in the past.

  4. It's too expensive for me. I could buy an Xbox and 1/2 of another system at the rate they're asking. Forget it, there isn't even a game I want on the system and the design is clustering confusion.

I don't think anyone who was paying attention said anything like that.

After being sold it was obvious Atari was taking a turn for the worse.

Yeah, the N-Gage is a viable system, all right...

    for me to poop on.

C'mon, really. Seriously. It's expensive and looks like ass so far.

  7. Shoot, I've been playing dedicated gaming machines for years and I've enjoyed every one of 'em for every minute of it. I already had a DVD player when the PS2 came out and a PC when the XBOX came. If you're a gamer, why do you care what else the game playing machine does? I think that the GCN's being able to play only games is a bonus because it proves to me that the last true videogame company still making consumer hardware couldn't give a rat's ass about anything that ain't games. It means alot to me since I too am only in it for the games.

The reason the Gamecube doesn't play DVDs isn't because they're some sort of final saviour of games-only consoles. They chose their format mostly to protect themselves from piracy.

  9. Man, your stripping me of my fantastic notions regarding the last bastion of gaming chivalry. Shhhh!

So is my Nokiea 6341i, but after signing a new contract and with the mail in rebate, I got the $200 phone for free.

I'm not saying that the N-Gage is going to affect the GBA market, but it is a sign that the market is starting to change. Nintendo can't take the handheld market for granted either. They did that with the console market and look where they are now.
