It is a masterpiece. I prefer Symphony but Dracula X is without a doubt the best of the traditional Castlevanias.
The common name for this game is Akuma Jou Dracula X: Chi No Rhine, but I prefer calling it by would it's english name probably would be called: Castlevania: Rhondo of the Blood. Most of you have played Castlevania: SoTN, and this game is the prequel to that game. It’s one of my all time favorites, maybe even my favorite game of all time. Unfortunately, it was never released in the states and goes for insane prices on ebay… so many of you might no be able to play this game.
The best way to describe it would be that it’s a cross between SoTN and Vania 3. Imagine SoTN’s beauty and smoothness coupled with the excellent action and level design that has been a key trait of the series, and you’ve got the basic formula for this game.
There’s a lot more to the game than simply that though. The attention to detail is incredible. Konami did everything possible to bring the castle to life…. Gunmen reload their guns after firing….animals crawling down the castle walls….bosses changing their attack patterns once they know their time is over…. I have to say this game is the r0x0rZ.
And the level design is incredible. It works extreme well with the music and graphics, giving one of the best experiences of all time, without relying on fancy shmancy graphics. I can’t think of many games that have such a great collaboration between the aesthetic and gameplay departments. Yoshi’s Island, NIGHTs and handful of others are the only games that have the ‘magic’ of great level design.
And if you’re wondering, most of SoTN’s graphics came from this game

It's extremely difficult to decide between X and SoTN. Both of them are favorite games in their respective eras. And gyruss is my favorite game in it's era. -_-
In the 8-bit era, I thought Castlevania was one of the most overrated series. Then in the 16-bit era, games like Castlevania 4 and Dracula X blew me away and it became one of my favorite series.
The level of detail in Dracula X is amazing and puts even most SNES games to shame.
Best. Game. Evar.
Does anyone have a rip of the werewolf intro from Dracula X Rondo of the Blood, the one where he jumps from the background![]()
Any chance that this might be in the next Castlevania Chronicles?
Dolemite, the Bad-Ass King of all Pimps and Hustlers
Gymkata: I mean look at da lil playah woblin his way into our hearts in the sig awwwwwww
although a bit easy, it's still one of the best games ever made, and houses the best gaming soundtrack, in my opinion.

Back in High School my friend Paul used to rant and rave about this game, he even brought a videotape of him playing it to school to show us, he was into Vampires.
The Only Dracula X I have played was the SNES one, which I thought was ok, but apparently it's nothing like the PC Engine version.
