Thread: Old school racers

  1. Old school racers

Can anyone recommend any quality old school racers of the outrun type? You know focussed games focused on endurance, rather than perfecting each lap....

  2. you should check out Rad Racer, after playing a lot of Out Run lately, i don't really compare them, they sorta seem like they were going for different feels. dunno what came out first though, im sure Out Run came out first though.

anyways, you should check out Pole Position. that's a great game, easily one of Namco's best. you can get it on just about any system, completely playable. some systems even offer anolog controls for the gas, breaks, and turning.
keep in mind that im talking about Pole Position on the Namco Museums here.

Rad Racer - like i mentioned earlier in the thread is a great game that is a lot like Out Run. music is just as good, though not as much.

Super Mario Kart - i don't know if you're only interested in car racing games, but this game is awesome. easily some of the best out of EAD. best game in the series (i do like the SNES levels with Super Circuit tweaks on GBA).
multiplayer in this game has given me some of my best gaming memories.
everything in this game just works so well together, it's just something that everyone should play.

  3. Rad Racer- Fun racing game with more variety than many games had at the time in terms of race locations and vehicles.
Out Run- Best arcade racing game ever until Daytona. No good console version hit until the Sega Ages version was released on the Saturn.
RC Pro AM (the Genesis version of it is the best one, playing it on the Nomad rules)

    lupin III fan

  4. yeah, you really gotta check out RC Pro AM, it's one of the few Rare games that i like.

Final Lap was a good racing game too. atleast multiplayer in arcades was. it didn't play a lot like Pole Position, but it sorta had the seem feel. or style in a way. well, what do you expect i guess, it's a Namco game after all.

oh, it's been a long time since i've played them, but i remember having fun with Uniracers and Stunt Race FX.

you guys know what, now that we're talking about racing games, im gonna go ahead and cut and past an old post...

i love this game. i remember as a little kid i would turn this game on, listening to the intro song, and reset it and listen to it all over again. dunno why, but when i was like 3, i really loved that song a lot. i found it to be really funny i guess. i would listen to the song atleast 5 times or so before i would start playing.

i remember how i would always make my own tracks that would be set up so that i could get infinite speed without over heating, and just set up some super jumps.

also, anyone here lucky enough to ever play any games in the ExciteBike: Bun Bun Mario Battle series? it was released for the Bandai Satellaview-X and only came out in japan.

i'd love to get my hands on this sooooo fuckin badly, look at how awesome it looks.

yeah, never played it, but i'd really love too. would be really awesome if we got a GBA port some day.

I would love to play Bun Bun Mario Battle on GBA, but at least I have Excitebike on e-Reader cards.

  7. Whoah, Bun Bun Mario Battle looks killer. Thanks, Lucas.

Anyone who hasn't played Neo Driftout on MVS should. Brilliant isometric view racer.

Not a stoopid topic at all.

  8. Enduro Racer
    Rad Mobile
    Hang On

Power Drift, Kinda. More so than some of the other games mentioned anyway.

  9. I really like Top Gear on the SNES. It was a really fun racer. I never really played the sequels too much.

  10. Super Hang-On (Here's hoping the GBA version will be better than the Genesis one, and that Sega brings out a compilation with it for the PS2)
    Enduro Racer
    Power Drift
    Out Runners

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)
