Thread: Photography

  1. Oooo a photography thread! I'm a big photography buff myself. There are some really great photos posted here. I'm really impressed. I've really got to get myself a Lomo one of these days ... I love the Lomo photos. And those black and white panoramic ones are also great.

I'm going to post some of my own photos shortly but I have to find the CD I saved them on. I really need to get myself hoooked up with a scanner one of these days so I can scan in some more recent shots.

  2. I finally found some pics to share ... not the most recent I have taken, however.

I generally like taking photos of alleys, doors, electrical lines, abandoned warehouses, etc. I'm very interested in urban photography. I don't have that many scanned in unfortunately.

  3. i gotta get a scanner so i can post mine from my old photo class. me and j2d seem to have the same thing goin on (course mine was for an assignment, not much leeway).

Wow, there are definitely some great photos in this thread. I've only glanced at them, but I'll give them a longer look later.

I'll be on my second year of art out of three or four (if I take higher level/AP) years in high school, and my teacher should be introducing photography to us next year. I hope to buy a fully manual camera once we get into it, and we have all of the chemicals for B&W development at our house. At the house we moved out of, we had a dedicated darkroom, but at the moment we don't have one.

It's amazing how long cameras can last. My mother has a fully-manual camera, a Canon I believe, that she recieved for a high school graduation present over twenty years ago. It still works perfectly, despite many years of usage.

The composition and quality isn't great, but here's a photo I took with our old digital camera, a Toshiba PDR-M4 of DC:

This was taken from our hotel window, but unfortunately, a lot of building detail was lost from the 1600 x 1200 original. It was gritty as hell, though. I guess that's to be expected from a 3-year-old 2.1 megapixel camera, though.

  5. Here's an idea: there should be a recurrent topic where a goal is brought up(taking portraits, mimic a famous painting etc) and should be done at the best of ones abillity. It's not ment to be a competition or something like that but I remember when I started taking pictures, I never had any real reasons behind the pictures neither did I really understand what somethings meant.

There are certain rules and guidelines which may or may not be interesting to know at this point but trying to express something and figuring out what the best way might be to achieve that could end up to be rewarding and in the end making the whole process more entertaining. what do you say?

  6. That's certainly a fine idea, J2. I've been slacking lately and I'd love more reasons to break out the camera more often and get busy.

  7. I'm intrigued the idea as well.

icepop: some beautiful shots, there. I'm not really one for urban scenes (taking pictures of them, that is) but my hat's off to anyone that can pull it off so well as you have. The bench and suspension wire photos are my favourites of the bunch.

Thank you vey much. The first two pictures are from Aberystwyth in Wales and the last two are of the Normandy Bridge in France ... had to act quick on the last two as I took the pictures from a moving car.

I finished a roll of film at the Grand Prix in Montréal this weekend. It was pouring with rain but I'm hoping I got some decent pics.

J2D, I think that's a great idea. I've never taken any classes before so it might be interesting to actually work on specific little projects. Good thinking.

  9. I've forgotten almost everything from the photography classes I took years ago. Nowadays, I just take pictures of things I find pleasing to the eye. Everything was taken with disposable fujifilm cameras. Please excuse the quality of the scans, I used a plastic folder fed through a fax/copier/scanner to obtain these.

This is Kurashiki or warehouse town.
