Thread: SSX 3

  1. Yeah, custom soundtrack wouldn't work, is music is handled the same way as in previous games. At least, it would stick out if you used it.

  2. I'll probably get the PS2 version just for the controls.
I thought you were gay.... i guess not.

Does that happen even when listening to the songs in PDA mode?

If so, then I understand why there is no custom soundtracks.

considering i'm not entirely sure what you mean about pda mode, i'm going to have to guess that the answer is no. if you're only listening to the song outside of actual gameplay (races, stunt mode, etc,) there would be no reason to do the crazy on-the-fly mixing.

  5. The small shop I frequent had all three versions up and running last night.

Graphics are noticeably better on the GCN and XBOX. Really beautiful game. GCN has progressive scan. Not sure about XBOX version.

Controls for the GCN were good. I didn't have any problems. You have to use the Z button as a modifier. I've never played an SSX title before, but I was pulling off tricks very easily with the GCN pad.

The XBOX version, like I posted earlier in the thread uses the Y+B buttons along with L+R triggers. My brother was trying the XBOX version, and no problems with the tricks. The only thing I didn't notice was if he used the Black and White buttons for anything. When he gets home from work I'll ask him about that and post an update.

PS2 version has very nice graphics. When you see all three running side-by-side, it easily gets overshadowed, but for PS2 only players, it looks great. The game was definately made for this pad, as it is the best of the three, but like I said earlier, adjusting to the XBOX and GCN control scheme is very easy, even for a newcomer.

I'd love to get this game, but my financial difficulties are too much at this point. Anyone picking up this game, please post impressions as soon as you can.

  6. Damnit... "noticeably" better graphics are what I was kinda (stupidly) hoping against. But your description of the controls for the Xbox sounds passable. So I guess it's the Xbox version. Now I just need to convince my roommates to buy this game today, somehow.

Thanks for the impressions, hopefully I'll be able to add some of my own in the next few days.

  7. i would very much appreciate it if someone could tell me if it's possible to get the xbox version running with a ps2 controller (using the correct control scheme,) and if so, where could i buy the adapter?

edit: i just want to add that ea+microsoft suck. stupid non-live game.

Per Gamespy's review the Xbox rev offers 480p and supposedly looks nothing short of mindblowing. The controls were "a close second" behind the PS2.

For once I had the foresight to preorder. This AND Crimson Skies in one day? Should be a good week.

The GCN version in progressive scan looks equally as good as the XBOX 480p mode. EA was serious when they said that the NFS:HP2 debacle wouldn't happen again.

The XBOX also sports DD5.1 sound, wheras the GCN uses DPLII. One other thing, I don't think the XBOX allows for custom soundtracks.

  10. Xbox version for me. Gonna use that Toys R Us sale to grab this, Otogi, and Soul Calibur 2. Those games better be on the shelves next week - I'm not getting screwed like I was last year!

*plans ahead and hides copies for himself* Mwahahahahahaaaaa
