Thread: Another Mortal Kombat Movie in the Works?!?!?!?!?

  1. Another Mortal Kombat Movie in the Works?!?!?!?!?

Thanks to Neomega's very own Mondo for pointing this out.

    http://us.imdb.com/Title?0293429

    From their message boards:

I am the one who placed all of the information on this film to the imdb. I know many of you have suspicions about this film, so I thought I'd openly speak out. Christopher Lambert did recently sign on to play Rayden. Shortly after, filming began. Listen to this carefully though: Christopher Lambert is the only cast member I was able to confirm. The rest are not my submissions. This movie is filming with Lambert, but that is all I can say for sure. It is my impression that New Line is grudgingly making this film solely because of contractual obligations. It's dissappointment with MKA was so strong that they have postponed this film as long as possible, and are now spitting it out as fast as they can. As far as a theatrical release is concerned...I really don't know. To tell you the truth, I think it may remain on the shelf for quite awhile, much like Dimension's "The Crow 3: Salvation."

I know this is information no die-hard fans want to here, but this is all straight from the guy who posted this imdb page...myself. Most of this is my own conjecture, but New Line Cinema has personally confirmed this to me:

Christopher Lambert is currently filming Mortal Kombat 3: Domination (actual title) as the role of Rayden/Raiden/however the hell you wanna spell it.

  2. This was in the planning for a long time. I remember back when Next-Gen was still around they had ana rticle on it. The live action tv series that aired brielfy was supposed to be the lead up to the new movie.

If this new movie is anything like Annihliation it's gonna be a laugh riot.

  3. New MK, new SF, new DOA, etc. Call me picky but fighting games simply don't make for good movies (with the exception of the first MK...)

And if this movie is anything like MK Annihilation I'm going to picket the damn MPAA.

  4. *grumblemutter*

Repeat after me, kids: iMDB is not a reliable source of information.

While I have heard confirmation that the movie's going to be made. almost NOTHING is known about it. The fact that they're calling it "Domination" is enough proof for me that they're full of it.

Other than the fact that the movie's supposedly in pre-production, there's nothing confirmed about it.

(Brief uninteresting history lesson: a few years ago, a guy by the name of Jason Thomas was working for Threshold Entertainment's mortalkombat.com website, and he announced his own MK fan project called Project Domination. The problem was, some of the people on that website took it to mean that that was the name of the third film, and submitted stories to Ain't It Cool and iMDB. Despite Jason's best efforts, the stories were never retracted. For the record, I spoke to Chris Almerico w/ Threshold back in December of 2001, and he confirmed that "Domination" was the one name they were never going to call the film, and that iMDB has largely ignored their efforts to set the record straight.)

    Hope this helps...

  5. Looking forward to the game of the sequel to the movie that is based on the game. The mortal Kpmbat tv series was pretty cool. How come the good guys got killed at the end though?

  6. What is this thread doing in Game board???

As for the film, it seems to have the cast from the original, which is a good thing, but it also have a big chance to suck as much as Anihilation did.

I will see it if it comes out, but I dont have any expectations at all.

    Which is crappy.

Because if you think about it, fighting games should be a no-brainer to make into a action/kung fu type movie.

Watch the first MK now and you'll see it was only passable at best. Fun movie for it's time but when you look at it now you'll se it hasn't aged well.

  9. I still don't mind the first Mortal Kombat. I'm not overly-picky about how well done my kung fu movies are. I got a kick out of bulletproof monk. It's just that when a movie is made based on a game which is so atrocious (eg; MK Annihilation) that makes me wonder about any other sequels in that series. Street Fighter was literally ripped up and pissed on until they squeezed a movie out of the remains of the game, so I don't really see SF2 being any better...

  10. accept they could make it funnier.
