  1. excellent post, seven. can't wait for a home release.

  2. Awesome, Seven. I like the whole idea that the boxes all go towards a boss multiplier. Ketsui: need. Thanks for mentioning the Ketsui artist's name, too.

Thanks for the clear-up on UoPoko, as well.

Tain: I think you know what to do...
    barbu: That's the one, thanks.

I was considering mentioning Joker Jun, too, so here we go.

Joker Jun is probably my favorite game artist. He has worked on DDPDOJ, Progear, Gunwage, and ESP. Ra. De. I am not sure about the others, however. This man has style. He pretty much makes every Cave game's environment what it is: DOJ as a gritty sci-fi tale, ESP as a futurisitic high school romp, Progear as a humorous 'little kids go to war' story, and Guwange as a just-damned-badass feudal Japanese warriors story.

The DOJ cover art piece is probably my favorite piece of game-related artwork of all time.

    Check out his homepage: http://www5.airnet.ne.jp/jokerjun/index.html

  3. Dangun Feveron is easily one of my faves. The whole idea is something I would do with the genre if it wasn't there yet. The music is hilarious and really fitting the game. Catching all the spinning dancers that appear after destroying ships is quite the challenge. The game is pretty fast and hard, but I thought Raiden is tougher.

Other faves: Donpachi, Dodonpachi. (and DOJ soon I hope )
Briefly played: Guwange, ESPrade (didn't play these too much but I like the DDP-way more, not that they are bad shmups)
Need to play someday: Progear, Ketsui
    !

  4. Outside of Dai-ou-jou, I've never played a Cave game except on mame and I don't feel that one should take that in account (atleast not on my comp but I like whatever experience it brings me when I play Guwange).

Everyone seems to like Cave but I'm not convinced yet, I haven't played Dai-ou-jou in the last couple of days and I've pretty much lost interest in the other Donpachi's for now(there's no need to pick one up either way since it's gonna take a life time to one credit Dai-ou-jou)but things change, I'm just disapointed that it hasn't become an obsession yet

And where might one be able to pick up some Joker Jun material, preferably some that has something videogame related in them.

  5. "Thanks for the clear-up on UoPoko, as well."

Yeah dude, you needed it!

Nice feature though Click Stick. Thanks!

J2d: Fix the first one and the second one will fall right into place

Yeah, I agree. DoDonPachi seems to be way above ESP Ra.De. and Guwange, but yeah, they're still great.

Hopefully Ketsui will get a PS2 port.

  7. Yea I think you might be right but it's so bloody expensive to be a Cave fan, but one day! *shakes fist*

  8. DoDonPachi better than Esprade? Heretic!

*runs off to get torches and a pitchfork or three*

  9. I cannot directly speak for Guwange, but ESP Ra. De. is a game that shines over time. The scoring system is not so 'in your face'/straightforward as the chaining of DDP. It requires much more creativity and planning than simply destroying enemies quickly. It's pretty darn complex. I could see that someone may be be so readily impressed, but I can guarantee that if anyone were to spend a bit of time with it, they'd love it.

If I ever had to choose a favorite Cave game, I can't say I would be able to come up with an answer during this lifetime. I still need to play a couple as well.

If anyone ever had the slightest desire to play more of Cave's goods, find a way! I cannot think of a better reason to bring oneself to the level of poverty even quicker. It's more than worth it.

    Awesome thread.

The Donpachi games are great but they always make me want to play Raiden instead.

I especially love Esprade, Guwange and what I briefly played of Progear. The artwork is fantastic. These games seriously need home ports.
