    Hopefully not the musicians.

Yoshi, Trust me, there are many companies worse than Tecmo that continue to exist, so dont pick on on poor T.
Don't be talking shit about Acclaim man

Seriously though, this is a very sad day indeed. I think I shall pay tribute to Psikyo by playing nothing but Cannon Spike and Zero Gunner 2 all day long.

    Haha, point!

I like their design mostly. Evil patterns that can be learned, management of your firepower resources, a variety of fighters/planes/flying ninjas, and of course, their signature two-stage bosses (who knew that your ordinary household toaster could hold a bullet spewing monstrosity, ready to unlesh burning death, and also makes good toast).

I also thought Zero Gunner 2 was a very nicely designed game, and quite beautiful, and I'd really like to see some new efforts from them. But that may not happen now.

Out of the three (Seibu, Compile, Psikyo), I think I'd most like to see a new Raiden, then something from Psikyo, and Compile is a distant third, despite my love of Zanac (grounded more in nostalgia than current shooter interests). Who knows if that will happen.

I'm very curious as to where the shooter genre is going in the next few years (hopefully somewhere other than face first into the dirt). Maybe they'll go the way of adventure games on the pc, with one new game every year or two, or maybe they'll just croak, which would suck.

  4. Did Seibu go kaput? When?

What's the last shooter Taito developed? RayCrisis?

  5. I don't remember reading a formal announcement anywhere, but then again, I don't remember hearing anything from them in the past, oh, forever. I could be wrong.

Well, Shikigami was on Taito's (amazingly craptacular) G-Net hardware, as were some others (Psyvariar and Night Raid?), dunno if they're actively involved in the development though. One other game I can't think of at the moment, something recent... or I'm losing my mind

  7. it's a damn shame, but just because Psikyo dies doesn't also mean that the people that made it up die with it.. they'll most likely move on to continue working in the industry..

and i wish them the best of luck, and i hope they realize that in this day and age, their accomplishments won't be forgotten.
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

  8. RayCrisis was it as far as Taito created games. Now they've been pretty much striking Toaplan type deals such as the one on XII Stag, a shmup developed by Triangle Service. More recently- Shikigami 2.

Let's give Psikyo a 21-gun salute. This is sad... I wasn't too happy with X-nauts absorbing the company, but this really bites.

I wonder what's become of Raizing... it's awful funny how Battle Bakraid bears only the 8ing label, while Capcom's 1944 which came out afterward sports both that and the Raizing brand. They haven't made any new shooters lately- and 1944 does feel halfassed when you compare it to Bakraid.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)
