Thread: Tapper

  1. Tapper

Midway. Most of us think of them as a piece of shit publisher that made those horrid MK games, and we often forget that they are one of the best publishers in the history of arcade gaming. Many of their pre Nes/SMS era classics are every bit as good as they were 20 years ago, which is an extremely rare trait among arcade games. Their 20 year old stuff has aged better than whatever Neo Geo games released last month have.

    Joking=)

Anyways I've decided to dedicate this thread to Tapper, an all time classic from Midway/ Bally. The objective of this game is simple, all you have to do is serve angry customers on time before they pummel you.

Just like any other 80's game, the game incrementally increases it's challenge factor from an extremely easy game, to one of the hardest and most intense games ever(just like how Pac Man does). Easy to pick up and play for the novices, and as deep as the ocean for the |33t.

Any fans of this game over here?

  2. Big fan here, was the only cart I ever had for my C64..

Remember the arcade cab, brass footrail and cupholders.

On the list of essential must own's for my future home arcade..
“The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, you know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.” -George Carlin

  3. Tapper was a lot of fun when I used to play it in the arcades, I could never get too far though

Here a Tapper gif I made

And what would a Tapper thread be without a Tapper smilie

  4. This is the key game that keeps me coming back and playing the Midway compilation CD on the PSX. The lack of the Budweiser license in this version isn't too bad, and the developer video with it goes into tons of details about how the Budweiser licensing came about and such.

  5. I've never played it, but I can definitly say I want to. I've been on an old-school, 2D kick recently.

  6. I love, love, love this game. Playing it on the original cab with the foot rest, and ash riddled ciggarrette holder thingy rules so much, not like that bastardized Root-Beer, Ultracade bullshit.

How far could you guys get? I could never beat the frat house in the arcade version, but I did beat it and the space level in the PSX port.

  7. CV, it's on: Arcade's Greatest Hits: Midway Collection 2 for the PSX if you ever want to play it. That's the collection I have and it's got some other classics on there like Spy Hunter and Burger Time.

Tapper's a great game though. Too bad all the home ports are "root beer tapper"

  9. I've never played the Root Beer version, I play Buwieser on MAME. Whats wrong with the former?

Thanks, Jeremy. I'm going to see if I can't sniff out a copy tonight at work.
