Thread: Half-Life 2 confirmed for Xbox...

  1. What do you want Microsoft to do? They've secured some top-tier titles for Xbox from 3rd parties. Thier best relationship is with western devs so yes... many of them are PC titles. It's still no less a feat getting Half-Life 2, Deus Ex 2 and Doom III to be target platforms from initial development on your system. PS2 doesn't have this and that's Microsofts competition. If you're upset that they're not exclusive, I would be more upset if (were I the kind of person who really likes having multiplue consoles like nearly everyone here) MS drove p the money truck to make these exclusive. In fact, doing that may do more harm than good.

Halo 2 and Fable are both being published my Microsoft... it's thier call where they go... but they're wise enough to give these games the time thier developers say they need. I say goody gumdrops for them. The games may well turn out better for it. PG2 is a great racing game IMO. But hey, can't please everyone. I honestly think they're doing fine on the software side.

Also, you haven't seen E3 yet.

Or even something that brings a kool-aid smile to my face when I think of the future? Fable does that but it's not within the year and at this rate not within the next year and a half, Half life 2 would do that if it wasn't on PC (Doom 3, as well), and Halo 2 is in the same boat as Fable.

I'm seriously asking, because the only thing I've gotten so far is Sudeki, and Psychonauts and while KOTOR was supposed to be good, but it was never a solid 'must buy' for me, so I would like to be happy when I think of my Xbox for 2003.

Oh, and Project Gotham 2 is the big Christmas release, isn't it? I am not a huge racing game fan, though.

  3. True. E3 may exploit more gems.

But as it stands I don't have a lot of time. I believe timed releasing is a sound strategy for a console. So knowing that a Halo and Fable take a LOT longer, they could have released key games now that aren't as big budget.

I'm not really 'angry'. More so disappointed due to the power of the Xbox not being used as much.

  4. Hmm, porting from a PC to a PC-esk system.

Definatly great for people who don't own a PC good enough, even though it's been said that even some of the lowest class (about 1998) pcs will be able to run Half-Life 2. One of the things is that Half-Life is owned for a large part, due to the mods for it. I think it would be cool if they included like previews of Team Fortress 2, and any other possible sequel mods for Half-Life, on the same disk. If they did this, I think that the drive to buy an X-Box would double.

  5. I care more about the Xbox version than the PC version. So to me this is good news. Because I don't play games on the PC. And ports don't have to suck, they just do a lot of the time. But PC to Xbox ports have been pretty good so far, so no worrys.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  6. Even if my PC was capable of running it, I'd still opt for Xbox. What can I say? I love controllers.

  7. Theif, the MODs made one of the best games ever made better, but the MODs did not win the game its accolades.

I don't think a computer from 98 (especially one without a string of expensive and oft times, for so old a PC, hard to find upgrades) could run Quake 3 beyond 800 x 600 with effects turned down very well let alone something like Half-Life 2. To give you a timeframe... Early 2000 was when I got a 'top-of-the-line' Pentium 3 600 with a GeForce2MX, 256MB of SDRAM (RDRAM was largely unused, expensive and improperly utilized, now it's about as good as DDRRAM from my experience). I could have had 384MB of RAM but I didn't see the need. The AGP apeture was 2X and that was super at the time (we're talking 8x and soon 16x nowadays). That ran Q3 well, but not past 1024. 2 years before that? I hardly doubt it would have even been salvageable.

  10. i'm just gonna get the pc version. i don't want to pay to play cs2 online. just isn't worth it when i can play for FREE on the pc. and the pc will be the superior version anyway. (better graphics, better control, easier to mod, etc)
