Thread: Resident Evil: Code Veronica

  1. Dead Aim isn't all that bad. I just wish the game would reward you for accuracy (head-shots don't seem to inflict anymore damage than body-shots).

Yeah, that really annoyed me since all the "normal" RE games seem to do this, as do any gun game worth anything.

  3. man, ive been on such a Resident Evil kick lately.

i finally played through RE0 again. the first time i got stuck about 1/2 way through and i was really not enjoying the new "no Box" system.

but i just played through it twice in a row this week and i have to say i really really enjoyed it. the no box thing was way less of a problem once i got used to it, and i found myself backtracking way less than other RE games.

im not the most experienced Survival Horror expert, but i was suprised to find that i RE0 was quite beatable without once using the Grenade Launcher or any of those Molotov Cocktails.

i think the Leech Hunter game is one of the finest RE unlockables/minigames as well.

back to CV: i loved it. the graphics, story, and gameplay were all fun. ive never played any other versions than the original DC US release. what are the differences?

i also wanted to ask Videodrone about the GC release of RE2 (and the others). thanks in advance.

i was under the impression that 2 was'nt as good as the DC port. i has heard that it wasnt enhanced like the DC port and was pretty much a bare bones psx port. is this wrong?

how about the other in terms of enchanced graphics, extras, etc. ?

im missing RE2 and 3 from my collection and im trying to firgure out what versions to get.

im also really looking forward to RE4. everytime i see Videodrones sig it make me think about how much im anticipating this game. cant wait!

X for PS2 and GC are indentical. X vs the original DC version basically has 10 additional minutes of cuts scenes and Steve gets a haircut to make him look less like Leo...seriously.
Some say better graphics, but I don't see it.

Well for 2, the DC version is the way to go. It has all the cool feature from the PC Platinum version (galleries, extreme battle mode w/Chris and Ada, rearranged mode). The graphics are the same as the PC version. One other difference is that the DC version has health and ammo on your VMU, very helpful.
The Cube version is near Identical gameplay and graphic wise, but does not feature the High res 60FPS cut scenes. Why not? No idea. Some say the backgrounds are better looking in the GC version. Of course the cube version lacks the VMU feature.

For 3, again probably the DC version with all it's features and VMU support. Unless you can get the PC version which supports up to 1600x1200 or something crazy. At that high of res the polys look silly against the background.
The GC port is a joke. No Mercinaries mode (or extra costumes ) One thing it does have going for it that it fixes alot of the poly clipping that affected the other ports.

I love many of the RE bonus games, but this one by far is my fav.

Are you sure? I thought it was a straight port of the PS version, meaning that you needed to beat the game first to unlock the extras (Mad Jackal game and costumes for Jill).

Anyway, the original Resident Evil was my first PS game along with Jumping Flash 2, so I do have some fond memories about it. I did the mistake of purchasing the game without a memory card (which I didn't get until months later) though, so I had to play the game from start to finish on one sitting (I always got taken out by the Hunters though). When I finally did get that memory card, I've played both, Jill's and Chris' games in tandem. I eventually learned how to beat the game under the three-hour limit to get the Infinity Launcher by learning which non-essential portions of the game.

I decided to skip Resident Evil: Director's Cut (being such a fanboy back then, I was dissapointed by the censored opening despite Capcom's promise). I purchased RE2 shortly after it's release and I wasn't dissapointed at all. Even though it was clearly more action-oriented than the original and a bit easier too, every other aspects of the game (namely the amount of extras such as costumes and mini-games) more than made up for it. When I was younger, I could even beat each of the main four scenarios at will on one sitting without ever saving the game. I later traded my regular copy with the Dual Shock edition, just so I could play as Ada and Chris.

RE3: Nemesis felt more like an expansion pack of RE2 than a full-fledge sequel. I don't know why Capcom decided to give it a numbered title to Nemesis, but not Code: Veronica (which pushed the story abit more than RE3 did), but I still liked Nemesis. It's what RE2 should've been in my opinion.

Code: Veronica was okay I guess. I didn't get to play it until rather recently and it was the PS2 version (couldn't find the Dreamcast original). The fully 3D graphics didn't wow me as much as it would've back when it was released and also, the engine was clearly a step back from RE3 (then again, the game was in development a bit longer). I'll admit Wesker did kick ass though.

REmake is probably one of my favorite GameCube games of all time. It was what a remake should be. I didn't RE0 that much though. The whole dropping/exchange items system was way more tedious than any item box. Also, RE0's excuse of a story felt more like filler than a tell-all prequel that was promised. I appreciate the change of direction with RE4, since RE0 felt way too formulatic.

  6. cool, thanks for the summary drone.

ive played both 2 and 3 on the psx a few years back, never owned them though. its high time i correct that.

the DC versions sound good to me. then i can have 3 on the DC and 3 on the cube. (my 2 fave systems, no offenxe psx.)

-RE0 may have been somewhat of a step back from REmake, and just more of the same with a wierd twist (teamwork/item exchange), but once i finally got into it, i really loved it.

the story wasnt a revelation forwarding the RE story line for me, but its the little in-game notes and scenes that do it for me.

the graphics rock, the teamwork thing was pretty damn cool once i got used to it, and the item swap/leave system took some getting used to, but it was no less tedious then the item box of old (one i got the hang of it).

-i guess i can sort of understand the hate some people have for the RE games in general, but i understand the love much more.

i have loved the series since i first played RE on the Saturn, and i still love it. its not a nostalgia thing either, because i wouldnt have played the various games as many times as i have and still enjoy them as much as i do.

theyre just plain fun for me.

the save/item box room music allways gets me.

love the series. bring on RE4!

Actually you are probably right. I know that they are unlocked from the get-go on the dc and pc version. I only played the gc version for a 15 minutes or so when I use to work at GS and realized that it was worth much for that $20.

I did look it up. You are right, they straight ported the PSX version, so they are unlockable. my bad.

I still don't know why the cut those parts in the intro. That aside, I still remember loving Director's Cut because it made me jump more than any other Res Evil. The genius of it was that every place you expected a creature to jump thru a window it didn't. When you put down your guard because you knew a certain hallway was clear, that's when they got you. The game preyed on fans who knew the first in and out.

I have always felt the exact same way.

  8. I've never beaten an RE game, so I decided to pick up the original Director's Cut Dual Shock for five bucks.

Not as pretty as it was in 1996, hah. Still, it seems to be surprisingly playable, so I'll give it a shot.

Less innovative, with worse character/monster design and half the replay value? :x

I'm not trying to start shit, I just don't get how anyone could seriously put RE3 over RE2. Speaking as a longtime fan of the RE series, the third installment always felt entirely forgettable to me. The new monsters were boring, Nemesis was Mr. X with a rocket launcher, and the game itself just didn't offer anything special. It was filler, basically.

Somebody write me a detailed essay on why RE3 is so awesome, so my head will stop hurting thinking about it. :S

  10. yeah besides RE0, RE Nemesis is the only other RE game ive only played thru once. it just fealt like a chore to me. and this is coming from the guy that has bought and played thru all rereleases, director cuts and remakes. yet these two in the series only got one playthru.
