Thread: Upcoming ninja games

  1. The king of all ninja games, Ninja Gaiden returns this fall. There is no competition in my eyes.

  2. Ninja Five-O rocks the house (as do most pre-GBA 2D ninja games). But if I have to limit my choices to future games, I'll stick to Kunoichi. I want to see how Overworks will improve on their first attempt at Shinobi in 3D, and that character just looks damn cool.

  3. If they can capture even a fraction of the magic from the originl then Gaiden is going to be great.

And it'll be interesting to see how Team Ninja will screw the series up (especially since nobody from Team Ninja heard of or worked on Ninja Gaiden before Tecmo insisted on including Ryu Hayabusa in the series, not to mention the game has been delayed so many times and changed so many formats). Heck, the new Ninja Gaiden wasn't even meant to be a Ninja Gaiden game at all.

In the meantime, I vote Kunoichi. I liked the original Shinobi and I'm sure Kunoichi will fix the flaws of the first game.

Given the level of quality Tecmo's been pumping out lately (okay, I never played boob-ball, but the rest was good, especially Rygar) I think doubts are unfounded. It's not like Ninja Gaiden trappings are really hard to go back and toss in, especially with the game still months away. Besides, no fan of the new Shinobi can really complain about a game not being like its predecessor.

This game is such an unknown quantity, I don't know how people can vote for it (aside from the Sega name). All we've seen are a tiny handful of cinema shots and staged art. Yes, it's a rejigging of last year's Shinobi, but if their improvements are "make it easier, add breasts" I'm not sure I should be waiting with bated breath.

After all, that's the sort of thing people always get pissed at Team Ninja for.

Not everyone voting for Kunoichi is blindly following the Sega name. I would love for Ninja Gaiden and Last Ninja to live up to their legacies but considering how the games look(generic currently) and given that the developers of these games have gone downhill(IMO), my faith is low. The Shinobi series has also gone downhill in the past decade but I think PS2 Shinobi had elements of greatness and with some improvements they could make an excellent ninja game.

  7. The new Ninja Gaiden is making me want an XBOX just a little bit, I think child hood is jsut beging me for more Gaiden...

You see there's Tecmo, and then there's Team Ninja. The quality of other Tecmo games does not reflect upon those of Team Ninja.

Word. Incidentally, which Tecmo division made Rygar (I know for a fact it's not Team Ninja)?

Well, Ninja Gaiden for the NES was nothing like the Arcade, but that's besides the point. Noriyoshi Ohba worked on the previous Shinobi prior to the PS2 game. Tom Itagaki knows nothing about Ninja Gaiden and the fact that the new game has been changing platforms and formats so many times makes me doubt the quality of the final product.

I don't agree; Team Ninja isn't a seperate entity like Sega's teams are. They borrow staff from the rest of the company. And it seems to me Tecmo has certain company standards for control and visuals these days (as much as I liked Shinobi, I wouldn't say that for Sega across the board). But whatever, only the final product will tell the tale.

And used none of that knowledge for the PS2 version, so that doesn't really mean much.

What's there to know? If it's 3D, it's going to be a very different kind of game anyway. Ninjas, difficulty, cinemas, cool soundtrack, fast action - I think he can pull that off. He's not trying to remake the old games anyway.

"So many times"? It was rumoured to be a PS2/Xbox game and then was announced as an Xbox exclusive. Exactly how much serious programming do you think had been done before that announcement (the middle of last year)? This isn't Silicon Knights trying to hack an N64 port. These guys have plenty of time, money and programming talent. And I'm sure most of it has been built from the ground up on existing Xbox engines they're using for Cronus or DOA4 anyway.

Again, DOA isn't a deep series or anything, but what exactly has been bad about anything TN's done?
