Thread: Saturn!

  1. Saturn!

The early launch of the Saturn back in 95 is probably my bigget gaming dissapointment of all time. I was expecting the Saturn to have near FMV quality graphics back)go ahead and laugh at me) then for whatever silly reason, and the Saturn port of Daytonna was the antithesis of what I had expecting. The PSX was a hundred times better back then to me with its next gen games like Wipeout, Warhawk, and Twisted Metal.

The 96-97 period was much like the 99-2000 period of the DC, IMO. As a huge fan of 2D fighters back then, the Saturns golden years were some of the most fun I've ever had. It was far from the best period for Sega software( it was in a transitionary stage IMO) , but all of the great third party software was the shiznit.

    And the shooter library r0x0rZ!

    And bunch of my favorites...

    NIGHTS

Yuji Nakas inredible masterpiece. Mario64 was relegated to shelves after a few days of play, but this game will always have an everlasting charm.

    Panzer Dragoon

Sega's awesome on rails shooter series.

Shining Force and Shining The Holy Ark

    Camelots/Sonic software plannings masterpieces.=\

    Sega Rally

Arguably the best racer ever to be ported on a home console

    Powerslave

Excellent build shooter. This is actually superior to it's PC counterpart.

    Battle Garrega
    r8zing!

    Sengoku Blade

    Psikyo's horizontal shooter

    Galactic Attack

    Taitos finest

I don't play fighters anymore but the SS port of Street Fighter Alpha 3 will always have a special place in my heart.

Dude, Shining in the Darkness is a Genesis game.

I love the Saturn. The shooters are awesome but the main reason I love is for the exclusives like Panzer Dragoon Saga(Sega's best RPG easily), NiGHTS, and Shinobi Legions.

  3. oopps! I meant Shining the Holy Ark

  4. I bought the Saturn in 95 and it lived up to every expectation I had for it, and then some. I loved VF in the arcades, so to see it packed-in as a free game made it an instant must-buy for me. Plus, I loved Daytona, so being able to play that at home was another reason to get it. I spent the $400 to get it early, and I never regret it. I've gotten more than my money's worth out of the system, and own more than 40 games for it (U.S. titles only.)

  5. Oh yeah and other great games that I did not mention above- Manx TT, Virtua Cop 1 and 2, Dragon Force(over rated but still good), Magic Knight Rayearth, Duke Nukem, Baku Baku animal, Fighters Megamix, Virtua Fighter 2, Soukygurentai, Kingdom Granprix, Liquid Kids, Bubble Symphony, Sega's Arcade classics compilations, Strikers 1945, Gunbird, Thunder Force GOLD, Burning Rangers, Shinobi Legions. And it also has the best port of Fantasy Zone.

  6. Hey!

Cyberbots was a great Saturn port. Zero Gouki forever!!

  7. Virtua Fighter 2 was an incredible port, along with Sega Rally and Virtua Cop, that was one heck of a holiday seasons for Sega/Saturn fans...

CRAB PEOPLE!!!! CRAB PEOPLE!!!! TASTE LIKE CRAB, TALK LIKE PEOPLE!!!

  9. In 1995, my interest in Saturn hit a fever pitch when I heard that Taito's RayForce was coming to it. That game alone was worth $460 (system+game) to me. Sure enough, it came up under the name Layer Section- and as Galactic Attack in the US. Acclaim kept the Tate in, unlike Sony with their Raiden Project who gave us a "Castratate" where you can't rotate the control mapping along with the screen.

While Daytona let me down with its choppy frame rate, Sega Rally atoned for it very nicely- in fact, it gave the PS Ridge Racer a run for its money. The Japanese Daytona CCE is every bit as good as Sega Rally, and it's how Daytona should've been in the first place.

Tekken actually paled in comparison to Virtua Fighter 2. The Saturn could compete evenly with PS in 3D given the proper coding and willpower.

The shooter library is nothing but pure gold. I could go on forever about that...

Sega's big mistake was their refusal to support the 4M cart in the States. With X-Men vs. Street Fighter being a hit in arcades, it could've helped the Saturn keep up.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  10. No PDS, Last Bronx, or Fighting Vipers?!?

I mentioned the Panzer Dragoon series. And I fogot about those 2. VF Kids was also rad.
