Thread: Fatal Frame 2

  1. *snip*

Yeah, that part was a little off-base, sorry.

  2. I picked this game up when I got my 360 back in September, but I've been sitting on it waiting until I was really in the mood to play it.

With the winter darkness descending I decided to give it a shot, and dang, this game's marvellous! They improved on the gameplay of the first game, and I'm hard pressed to think of a game with as much atmosphere. On 360 the visuals look absolutely astounding - it wouldn't look out of place if it were released as a next gen game straight up (that's the power of good art design).

I liked the first one, but it took me a couple of months to get through. But this one I've powered through in about 2 days; maybe it's just that I'm more familiar with how the gameplay works now, but this one seems alot more playable than the first. Unfortunately...

I've got no idea how to get those damn dolls to move.

Anyway, crying shame they never released the third one on Xbox. Hopefully the next (current?) gen version makes a 360 appearance. It should look incredible.

  3. Wow, I totally forgot about these games. They've always sounded pretty good, but I they'd be something I could really enjoy right now. thx4bump

  4. How much do FF 1&2 go for on ebay these days? I should get them if they're BC.

  5. The first FF for Xbox is an all-time favorite of mine. I whipped through it in a few days of horror gaming nirvana a couple years ago that I'll never forget. I've only barely started the sequel. So far, it's great, but I'm kinda not so into the new way the symbols light up when you've got a ghost in the camera frame. I wish they'd left that alone. A minor complaint, though. I need to put some serious time into this soon. Love this series.

I don't know, but I paid full price ($60 cdn, about $52 USD) for II on Xbox new 3 months ago. Totally worth it, the story's so good and it's so nice looking it's one of those games you're kinda proud to own.

  7. Even though I've got the PS2 version, I really should have picked up part two for the Xbox for cheap when I had a chance to earlier this year. FF2 really is an awesome game, and some parts get freaky as all hell.

Plus, you know, there's the whole pseudo twincest thing going on... (There's an awesome looking FF2 Japanese porn that I need to find one of these days.)

You shouldn't have to pay much for the first game. I still see it used for $10 or less here and there. I don't know what the sequel's value is now.

I enjoyed the first game. I quickly bought the sequel as it seemed like the Xbox version was becoming rare. It was so soon after playing the first that I put it aside. I'm looking forward to playing it, especially now that I have a 360.

  9. I love the Fatal Frame series.

    That said, for me

    FF > FF2 > FF3.

The original is the scariest, has an action-like focus, and has the best story.

The second has a much bigger budget so production values are incredible... but I kinda got the "been there done that" feeling so it was harder to be creeped out despite the improved visuals and audio. But it does add a deep combo system that encourages using different lenses. Unfortunately, combat is cumbersome because everything moves at a snail's pace. Even when maximizing on Fatal Frame opportunities, it can take like 5 minutes to take down normal ghosts.

Fatal Frame 3 - "Fixed" the combat by having all the depth of 2, but with the speed of 1. The last boss fight is also a nice challenge. But everything else is awful. It has these cyclical phases (like exploring your apt during the day, exploring your apt in the evening, going to sleep and entering Himuro's mansion) that makes the game extremely repetitive. It also has this stupid lantern system where once it goes out, the main antagonist comes out to kill you. It's still somewhat entertaining cuz it's a FF game, but its flaws are many.

  10. Found the second for Xbox for $20 new today, so might break down and pick it up after the holidays.
