Thread: Fatal Frame 2

  1. None that I've seen. I'm going to have to pick this up tomorrow... unfortunately my weekend has to be spent studying for finals.

  6. So I ordered this game off of amazon marketplace for half price brand new and got it on monday. I've played a bit while my gf watches and I have to say I've loved what they've done to the sequel. Theres so much more strategy in getting the ghosts now.

    Some ghosts you have to let them get close so they can attack you then peal on out of there and catch them missing and bam you can shoot for a fatal frame and then a combo zero shot. How many combos can you get up to? I've only gotten 2 hits and I see someone got a 3, what's the max?

    I love this game so much. The atmosphere is so much better than any other game of it's kind. And I think the other games are great too but theres just something about ghosts, the camera, the music and the graphics.. woowww. When I'm looking through the camera that grainy look makes everything look so real. I scared the shit out of myself a few times now just looking around the room only to come face to face with AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH oh wait that's my sister. FEwwwwwww.

    I love how now you have to deal with multiple ghost forcing you to explore how to get rid of them faster lest they make a poltergeist sandwhich out of you. Once I got the Fatal Frame indicator my skill jumped up considerably but so did the scare factor since I have to wait till the last second and then if I miss I'm screwed. I didn't notice what chapter I'm up to but the last thing I did was get the two keys from the shrines.

    In the last game no ghosts scared me more than 1) the kids, nothing freaks me out more than dead or possesed kids... the laughter (chills) 2) "My eyes" bitch, she truly had my skin crawling just hearing the words. If they can match those two in this game I'll be putting this as my top scariest game ever.

    see now im the opposite. silent hill and re did nothing scare wise for me, but the moment i saw a ghost come thru the walls to get me.....fuck that.

  8. Actually I'd say that being chased by a hunter is tense not scary. If the hunter could dissapear and transport to anywhere in the room to suprise me than I would be scared.

    I've gotten scared by SH and RE but I'd say they were more cheap scares since it was just something that jumped out of nowhere or something similar and on the spur of the moment I jumped but quickly regained my cool whereas in FF it's an atmosphere that gets underneath your skin and raises the hair on your neck.

    Since I was a kid I've heard all sorts of stories about ghosts, which makes FF a little more tangible for me in terms of freak factor since people have stories about them. Compared to SH or RE there are no stories of the monsters in there and therefore it's a little less scary since I don't have any past stories or ideas to associate with the monsters of those games. I'll admit that SH is scarier than RE but I'd put both of them in the same category whereas FF is completely new. You don't have guns or pipes or knives, you have a camera and you don't just hold a trigger to lock on and shoot away till the thing dies you actually have to use your skill to center on the ghost and take the shot multiple times before it dies all the while knowing very well that it can dissapear and reappear from anywhere.

    Nothings freakier than being in the camera mode losing track of the ghost, look left right than come out of the viewfinder mode only to realize "Holyshit it's right behind me" and burn on out of there to safety before turning around to put some more hurt on the ghost.

    Theres also the fact that once you see the monsters in SH or RE you pretty much don't see many new ones throughout therefore know their behavior the next time you encounter them. In FF every ghost you meet has it's own behavior and attack pattern making it a challenge everytime since you have to figure out the best plan of attack.

  9. i agree with everything you said. i just dont like to type that much i never finished the first and want to give the new one a try.

  10. Yeah I'm at work and therefore have the time to type this much. Besides I think this game deserves much more credit than it's getting. Even though it's only on the PS2 it's still a beautiful game... scary as hell too.

    My gf asked me yesterday if she could control and I watch so I handed the controller over to her and she was doing great searching for clues, navagating from room to room when suddenly the red/orange indicator came on and the heartbeat of Mio started vibrating through the controller she fucking jumped up screaming "I can't play this, I can't play this here you take the joystick." and then for the next 30 mins she kept questioning me "How can you remember what button to press when you're almost shitting your pants?"

    She said it was the scariest experience she'd every experienced including movies, and she's a big fan of horror/thriller.

    Love this game.
