there's a "hard" difficulty, but it has to be unlocked. stupid, i know.
Well, the length isn't bugging me, but the difficulty is pissing me right off.
I'm almost up to Kraid. Does this thing get harder? This is too friggin' easy.

I'm glad there is a hard difficulty, because I've heard lots and lots of complaints over their "normal" difficulty. Why must games be dumbed down so much???Originally Posted by epmode

For the same reason RType Final's Free PLay option is unlocked after playing for 2 hours in the US version. People are lazy.Originally Posted by Roufuss
This game is awesome. Really easy so far (Kraid especially) but still, awesome, awesome stuff.
Too bad I know it'll be over soon.
Just finished it. Haven't had three hours that enjoyable since 1986.![]()
I find it surprising that this game is so short, and so so easy, yet still gets critical acclaim. If this was any other game, we'd all be pissed, but we're letting it slide "because it's Metroid".Originally Posted by NoFace
Hell, the only reason I'm buying this game on release week anymore is because it's 20, but I'm mightily disappointed by both it's length and it's ease. I'm only hoping that the hard difficulty and the original metroid can more than make up for my first playthrough.

I agree it was way too easy. But as for it's length, I have no problem with it.
It's a remake of the original Metroid, which is much shorter than Zero Mission. All the added stuff really makes it that much better, especially towards the end.
Plus, all the games in this series have been fairly short (except for Prime). I can beat Super Metroid in less time than it took me to beat Zero Mission, and probably find more (granted I've played Super lots more).
And hell, it was enjoyable from start to finish. Plain and simple. That's what makes it a great game.
I know about this, been playing Metroid games since the first one dropped back in the day, but they seemed longer only because the game didn't hold your hand like I hear this one does. Alot of the exploration is killed when the game says "hey, go here next, and do this!" just because Nintendo dosen't want a bunch of 12 year olds crying because it's too hard.Originally Posted by NoFace
Half the fun I used to have was just exploring, and finding all the hidden E-tanks and missiles, but now, at least in Fusion, you can tell when one is in the room. It makes for a simplier process, while I'd rather have the "I have no clue where to go or what to do next but I'll keep going this way in hopes of finding something" that the original, super, and Prime all gave me. And Metroid 2, as well, forgot that one.

Well, if you enjoyed Fusion, you'll love this. You want to talk about the game holding your hand, you talk about Fusion. Thankfully, this game basically just points you in a general direction (if you let it). There are some good puzzles to figure out on your own, and plenty of secrets to uncover.
I found it easy in the amount of missles you get basically. Ridley and Kraid went down like nothing... Mother Brain was the only thing in the game that put up a good fight.
It's a far, far better game than Fusion if you ask me... there's much more exploration than that game ever allowed. And fun... don't forget that.
