Van Helsing: 'Ive Got Kooties' saw a whole lot of cool behind the scenes stuff the other day from the Hugh Jackman monster movie and came away with various facts:
"Van Helsing will have about 15 weapons, one of which was a hand held circular saw which is about the size of a mobile phone at the start. Then he presses a button and little blades spring out of it to make a circle, then he holds the handle and continually presses the button with his thumb (or trigger) and it spins the blades around.
Frankenstein plays a major role because Dracula needs him to make his offspring live, we were told that Dracula has a harem of Draculettes that have been trying to give birth to his children for 300 years but they keep being born dead. Dracula is trying to find Frankenstein because he was once dead and came to live and Dracula thinks he holds the key to live (or something like that).
Frankenstein is going to look like a real man-made monster, we're going to be able to see all his parts - there's a glass plate on his chest so we can see his heart pumping. We'll be able to see all of the wires hanging from the back of his head and at one point in the movie his head will be hit and the top of it will flip off (like there's a hinge at the back).
Unlike Werewolves in past movies where the hair will grow longer and longer until the man is transformed into a wolf, in this film it's going to be like a wolf is actually inside the man. We saw drawn concept artwork for the transformation from man to wolf and it's the man is actually a skin for the wolf who rips through the flash to be a fully developed wolf living within. "
Sounds very cool. Just one year to wait
"Once Upon A Time In Mexico: A trailer for the Robert Rodriguez flick will be attached to "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle"."
Hooray !!!
"World of Tomorrow: The LA Times has done an extensive article on the Gwyneth Paltrow & Jude Law period piece/sci-fi movie which has the distinction of being entirely shot on blue screen in studios 15 miles northwest of London. Director Kerry Conan says "The whole movie is a special effect, even a scene with two people sitting in a room. Really, it's a live-action cartoon. I reasoned what was most expensive and difficult about making films was going on location, building sets, things beyond my scope or unavailable to me. I thought, if you can build sets or travel anywhere in the world in a computer, you have gotten rid of the most complicated part of filmmaking. Then you locate it all in a central facility like this". The plot of the movie has newspaper reporter Polly Perkins (Paltrow) investigating the disappearance of various world-famous scientists as "strange flying machines threaten Manhattan, and gigantic walking robots tramp down the city's streets". Together with her old flame - a Warhawk pilot Capt. Joseph Sullivan (Law), she flies to Nepal to track down a crazed mastermind out to destroy the world. The blue screen trick is appreciated by the film's various actors such as Angelina Jolie - "This method of making this film is what made it possible for me. I just came off 'Tomb Raider 2', and if this film was not done in this way, it would take a year to shoot. Because of the technology, I'm only here for a week", however even with this simple trick there's still some complex visuals required for the virtual sets to be built on computer - so much so the budget is still over $50 million"
Hmmm.....
"The Matrix Revolutions: Well for those who can't sit through the end credits of 'Reloaded' or finish the computer game, 'James' has details of what you can expect to see in the first 'Revolutions' teaser (I saw it today and can confirm this is accurate). Easily the most distinctive sequence is "Neo and Agent Smith standing in the pouring rain of a dark street...slowmotion shots of them running towards each other whilst along the sidewalks on both sides are hundreds of Smiths all lined up - both proceed to punch each others face at the same time in slow motion then a shot of them both flying back from the punch". There's also shots of people in large robotic construction suits battling machines, gigantic land based machine vehicles, many sentinels and Zion residents fighting back, and finally a "shot of Neo in a room jumping over a flying Agent Smith who flies right at the screen".
Van Helsing sounds fucking awesome. I have to wait a year? Damn.
It's about time we heard something about Once Upon A Time In Mexico. I'm very much looking forward to the continued adventures of El Mariachi.
One thing I don't understand about the Matrix movies, based on the content of the Revolutions teaser: I thought Neo was supposed to be like Jesus or something. You know, be able to "re-write the Matrix at will", rip apart Agents code, basically be super-powerful and god-like. So why is he still fighting with kung-fu? He should be doing Dragonball Z-type shit now, shooting fireballs and blowing up moutains, at least that's what they heavily implied in the original movie. Hell, he's not even supposed to be able to be killed, based on the end of the first movie when Agent Smith emptied his Colt Python into his chest at point-blank range and Neo just got up and "killed" him. He still just flies and does kung fu in the new movies, however. Not what I'd expect from "The One".
