Thread: Taxi Driver

  1. Taxi Driver

One of the best movies ever made.

I've seen it before, but last week I got to see it in a theater for the first time. It was playing at the Red Vic here in SF.

My favorite scene is when DeNiro's in the coffee shop hitting on Cybil Shepherd. It's the subtleties in his acting that make it so damn slick. When he says:

"I should get one of those signs that says 'One of These Days I Should Get Organizized.'"

    and Cybil says:

    "You mean organized?"

And he explains what it is, etc.- then Cybil says:

"Oh.....you mean like those signs that say "Thimk."

His reaction here is just great. Takes a beat, looks around, and compliments her on her eyes. The scene where he's talking to the Secret Service guy is another highlight.

    What do you guys think?

  2. Taxi Driver is fucking brilliant.

I cant count all the ways its great.

So many scenes stick in my head. Like... just about all of them. The movie just is fucking crazy sick awesome.

One of the best movies ever, like you said.

    Scorsese was robbed.

It's amazing that the dude has put out what could be said is the best film of the 1970s (Taxi Driver), the best film of the 1980s (Raging Bull), and the 1990s (Goodfellas), and still no Oscar. What a sham.

  3. Yes, I'm quite surprised that he never got one, with many of his films being critically acclaimed and considered the treasures of the cinema.

I agree that Taxi Driver is a great film. Been I while since I seen it, though.

  4. I love Taxi Driver! Agree with all the sentiments about it being one of the best films ever. It's one of those movies where there's just so much depth to be discovered, yet at the same time it's fun for more casual watchers. I could discuss it forever with people who really want to think about what's going on, or I can just talk about how cool the shoot-out scene was. Great great movie.

  5. Taxi Driver is a masterpiece.

You're right, it's brilliance lies in it's subtleties.

  6. I just saw it recently for the first time. Great movie. Bernard Herrmann’s score was fabulous. It fit so well and created such ambience. I liked how it ended too, very open to interpretation.

  7. yeah i liked it too. but i wanted to see that girl naked

  8. Damn, that chick was a bitch. Gets offended just because Travis takes her to a porno movie for their first date. Sheesh.

  9. I just saw this recently as well - it was an old shitty VHS though, so I might rent it again when I find the DVD version or a better VHS copy. I'll jump on the "one of the best films ever made" bandwagon as well. It's my favorite Scorcese movie (although Goodfellas and Gangs of New York are damn close).
