Thread: Nintendo announces GameCube/GameBoy Player bundle!

  1. The only system I even remotely regret buying at launch is the PS2, and even that was worth it just to see Beyond the Mat. I don't see how early adopters have gotten screwed over. If the game lineups or hardware features don't interest you, then don't buy a system until they do. It's not a complex thing folks. Just pay the price you're willing to pay for the system, the price you think it's worth. For me, being able to see Beyond the Mat balanced out the PS2's sub-par launch lineup (and horrid lineup for the first nine months of the system's life.) This is coming from someone who paid $400 for the Saturn right around launch and doesn't regret it. Why? Because for me, being able to play VF and Daytona at home was worth $400.

  2. Sounds like a great pack-in deal. And yes, I bought a launch day Cube and don't feel screwed at all. Monkey Ball and Wave Race were worth it alone.

What Nintendo really needs to do is just build this in to whatever console they are making for the next generation (2005-ish). How cool would it be if you could just plug GBA carts right into the console memory card ports or something?

Great! So quit crying and go get the new Sega mach... Oh, nevermind.

  4. I totally get what you're getting at MVS, but you don't have a PS2 or a Cube? The PS2 is a must have console, by third party support alone.

I can see you being dissappointed in the Xbox library, or a Cube owner being dissappointed with the GC library, but I don't think any console gamer out there could say, "Meh, the PS2 just doesn't have anything I'm interested in playing." I still don't have an Xbox and am waiting for it be really on the cheap, ...but the PS2?

Personally, I've absolutely gotten my money's worth out of my GC and I've gotten my money's worth out of my import Gameboy Player. I don't feel like Nintendo just screwed me with this offer; I've been enjoying this stuff for a long time. And I think it's a great offer for those who have not yet bought a GC. I think they still need to throw in a Wavebird and a 2mb memory card, and at least a discount on your choice of game. You know, offer a really complete package at a really good price.

  5. In my opinion you always get screwed as an early adopter. You pay alot more and there are rarely any games worthwile. How many games havent i bought on launch that i would never ever ever have touched normally.

I have to disagree. If you told me that I had to give up one of my current gen systems (Cube, Xbox, GBA, PS2), the PS2 would be out the door in a heartbeat, and there'd only be 4 games I'd miss at all (DDR, Amplitude, Need for Speed, Maximo). The game line-up over there in Sony land just isn't for everybody.

Of course, Gradius and R-Type may change all that if they get domestic releases.

  7. That's what you get, Andy, when you support a system from the get-go.

Well of course there are exceptions to every rule. I'm just wondering, if you're a console gamer and you don't own a Gamecube or PS2 and you're disappointed with your Xbox, what are you playing? I mean, you're basically saying that there are no games out there worth playing now.

There's a ton of stuff out there to play, lots of it good. You're happy with your Xbox, GC, and GBA but could do without your PS2; that's great. I'm incredibly happy with my gamecube and gba and could probably be alright without a PS2, tho I'd miss out on some stuff I really like. MVS isn't happy with any of them.

I can kind of see where he's coming from, but if you're basing your opinion of the current state of gaming on your disappointment with the Xbox, then your [his] opinion is a little bit skewed.

That said, who cares? I think if I was only playing my PSOne and Super Nintendo, I could probably find something to play for the next five or six years. Plus, I never owned a Saturn, so I could go find one of those for cheap and start playing that stuff too. So I'll shut up now.

  9. I didn't buy my PS2 right away, mostly due to the amount of people.
