Thread: Seven Samurai

  1. I wanted a black and white game with a celluloid filter. The dream is dead!

(or i'll just play Onimusha on a B+W moniter, I suppose)

  2. wow, that looks like crap. cyborgs?

i was hoping the game would go something like this:

You start off as a villiger gathering up 7 Samurai (d'oh) and doing some sort challenge (puzzle or errand running. something like that)to get them to join your party
then you setup defenses around the village
next, the bandits come and it goes all Onimusha-style, except more realistic combat. and you'd swtich between the different samurai to do battles.

    something like that.

and of course the other storyline events would be there, too. capturing a rifle, burning the bandit camp, ect.

now THAT would be a good game.

  3. The game is (apparently) called Seven Samurai 20XX. So it has NOTHING to do with the film and its time period. I think it actually looks pretty cool.

I also don't think Akira Kurosawa would have had any right to stop production of this game, its not like his film history is flawless anyway. If you have any respect for the man, make sure you never see "Dreams".

Ya. There's a demo disc in the prototype Celebrity Deathmatch sample disc.

  5. "But Kubrick's version of The Shining still retained the core elements of it's source material"

"It is entirely possible to make a Seven Samurai game without throwing away the integrity of the movie. Hell, you could at least set it in the same time period."

Have you guys ever heard of the great movie the magnificent seven? Its a remake of seven samurai only in westerns setting.

"Seven Samurai was never about the setting, it was about the characters, thier struggles, and thier interactions with eachother"

    Bingo..

  6. Kinda like Spider Man 2099!

    Um...

    No. Fuck that.

If Seven Samurai 20XX turns out to be an insightful deconstruction of the idealized pastoral existence of peasant farmers under feudalism created by the 20th century Japanese Imperialist establishment, then cool.

But all I'm seeing is ninja cyborgs, combo meters and dollar signs in their eyes.

Blush away, as I agree with him.
