Thread: Atari LYNX

  1. Two of the best games of the Lynx was Slime World and Red Baron, both or those games were decent single player... but linking up two or more on road trips, and you have some awesome games(well at least back when they were released)

  2. My Lynx collection, dumped from an old .txt file:

    Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (x2)
    Chip's Challenge
    Crystal Mines II
    Dirty Larry Renegade Cop
    Double Dragon
    Gates of Zendocon
    Gauntlet: The Third Encounter
    Hydra
    Ishido: The Way of Stones
    Klax
    Kung Food
    Malibu Bikini Volleyball
    Paperboy
    Pinball Jam
    Pit-Fighter
    Qix
    Rampart
    Robo Squash (x2)
    Shanghai
    Steel Talons
    S.T.U.N. Runner
    Super Skweek
    Switch Blade II
Todd's Adventures in Slime World (x2)
    Tournament Cyberball
    Xybots (x2)
    Zarlor Mercenary
    *
    AC Adapter
    Battery Pack
    Car Adapter
    Carrying Case
    Sun Visor (x2)

As for what games I like... fun ones?

Get CyberVirus instead. IT's much better. I did a review in the Reader Reviews forum if you care to dig it out. EDIT: review here

Anyway, I loves my Lynxes. Top reccomends include Blue Lightining, Electrocop, Zarlor Mercenary, BattleZone 2000 (make sure to use the "real game" code), Shadow of the Beast, Rampage, Stun Runner, RoadBlasters, Bill and Ted, and CyberVirus. There's alot of greatoriginal content to be had. There's a good bit that hasn't aged well also, but just avoid those.

    EDIT: BenT, you're missing alot.

  4. When talking about the Lynx, no one ever mentions Xenophobe. It's a great game, damnit!

    Kung-Food was boss, too.

I'm sure. Many (most?) of those games are ones I would not have bought separately if they had not come in lots. However, you list games that I think are blah, like Bill & Ted and Zarlor. So, I'm not sure I would agree with your assessments of other Lynx games. (Thanks for the tip, though.)

    I don't love my Lynxes.

  6. I'll buy your Lynxes off you. At a good price that is. ;-)

  7. I'll keep you in mind if I ever decide to ditch them, but my pseudo-collector / enthusiast mentality makes me want to keep them and acquire a few more supposedly good games.

You have a pretty good mix of games, although I'd say at least half of those are in the lower 50% of the library. I suppose that's par for the course.

There was this thread on AtariAge from last year, where someone asked what the five best games were for the Lynx. I decided it would be best to give the five best single-player games, as well as the five best multiplayer games (the multiplayer ones I named were also good single-player games). I even suggested ten others in case ten games weren't enough (and they aren't).

Here's the list, in case you don't want to follow that link:

    Single-player:

    Blue Lightning
    Electrocop
    Klax
    RoadBlasters
    S.T.U.N. Runner

    Multi-player:
    BattleWheels
    Rampart
    Shanghai
    Todd's Adventures in Slime World
    Warbirds

10 bonus picks: A.P.B., Checkered Flag, Crystal Mines II, Gates of Zendocon, Joust, Lemmings, Ms. Pac-Man, Robotron: 2084, Shadow of the Beast, Xenophobe.

I recommend checking that thread out, though. A lot of people responded to it, so you can get an idea of what other people's favorite games are.

  9. Ok... sounds good. I know exactly how you feel about the collector in you, though. :-P

  10. I found the Lynx version of Road Blasters, to be the best of the bunch. I played the PSX version on Atari's greatest and it just did'nt feel right.

Chips Challenge is a great puzzle game as well.
