Thread: Does your Xbox copy music cds extremely slow?

  1. Does your Xbox copy music cds extremely slow?

Mine does and I don't know if it is supposed to be this slow or if mine is defective. I have not actually tried a store bought music cd so it may be the fact that I use cd-rws. I was going to try a real cd but it doesn't let you stop copying once you start.

It's been copying for 15 minutes and isn't even half way done. What a box of shit this Xbox is!

  2. If you mean copying from a cd onto the hard drive, then yeah mine's slow as hell too. I put the whole Dirtbombs "Ultraglide in Black" on there and it took forever. It was a "real" cd.

  3. that sucks. makes the whole thing a lot less attractive. oh well. it finally finished copying the songs now. beh.

It took me like 5 minutes to copy about an hours worth of music from a "real cd" I don't know what is with your guy's Xboxs but mine preforms acceptably

My XBOX is pretty slow also. Not 15 mins slow, but slow. And I've only ripped songs from "real" cd's.

Yes. The PS2 copies CDs much faster.

P.S. I will send five dollars to anyone who bans Delta.

  7. A: Most things "rip" slower off of an RW disc ( lower reflectivity ) and B: depending on the brand of Xbox DVD-ROM you have there will be some performance variables. A Thompson drive ( that hasn't gone too far off cal. ) and the Philips drives usually yeild me 12-15 minutes off of pressed CD's ( add about 3 min. with an RW ), haven't tried the Samsung unit. Also, it's ripping AND encoding ( to a 5400rpm drive ), you have to consider that as well. My PC may rip to MP3 faster but it has a 7200rpm harddrive, faster DVD-ROM, bus speed, etc. and 4 times the RAM of the Xbox. Anyway, as someone else said - how fast is the PS2 ( or GC ) ripping your Audio CD's?

P.S. - If you want to stop copying simply turn the thing off....

  8. Mine doesn't take too long to copy CDs. I do it track-by-track though, and it only takes, maybe a minute or two per track.

  9. Same here. Quite exceptable. I can even rip from cd-Rs (mod your xbox first, though).

  10. my first xbox took literally over an hour to rip one song off of my cd's (actual store bought). needless to say i took that fucker back and got one that takes about 15 minutes tops for a full cd.
